So is this worth the trip from Ipswich? I was warned off last time as not worth the effort. It would be nice to stretch my legs after a summer pandering to tourists in the mystic east!

Lemon polenta cake will be made if the answer is yes!

I'd do it Sandwich, the one you were warned off from was a more tame ride, this is more traditional peak district stuff, fast wide rocky bridleways and the like.

I think it was the Goyt valley one as a few people suggested it probably wasn't worth the drive for the sort of stuff we were riding.

I'll see if I'm not working, I've not been on one of these for a long while

Its not just not the same now though this thread. No fluctuating register of planned attendees, no route to merely suggest little tweaks of refinement (though no bikehike makes this harder admitedly) ..

"First part of Cavedale beats all of pindale hands down. Second part awakens you and makes you laugh"
what hora said

well you know how it is, business dips, you have to lay people off....it's difficult to maintain the same level of service....

Cheers Pook - (Chris). We have met on the first or second Peaks Pootle (I think I gave you a Torx key?) & I do know the area a little.
My current recovery means 15-20 miles will be OK, using the full suss (I know, I know, not really necessary etc.) will ease any issues. And I want to see Hora as it's one of his old frames I'm riding !!!
I will encourage the current Miss4real to go as it should be good. Will confirm here on Friday eve if attending 🙂

Told it was a long way to come for not much excitement. Usually not a worry but the holiday business required my attention that weekend. There are high level discussions about petrol and its cost going on currently. The second rubber queen goes on the bike tomorrow signalling the end of summer.

Can I suggest some route refinements? I suggest that initially we head over Jaggers, then down the so-called Beast, etc, blah, Cut Gate, Trans Pennine Trail, up above Mossley, drop down into the back of Glossop, some nadgery evil, Middle Moor backwards, up Coldwell Clough, South Head, Roych, Rushup, Hollins Cross, trail down to Castleton, back up the Roman Road, Dirtlow Rake, Pindale, Hope, up the Roman Road, then left down Jaggers again, lefthand descent back up to Hollins Cross, over to Mam Nick then the direct descent down to Edale. Should take no longer than four or five hours and neatly avoids Cavedale. If that seems a little tame, it can easily be extended.

4-5 hours on that route in a big group? With mechanicals and punctures that'll extend by 1-2hours BWD easy. Trust me 😆

Pffft, I'll be bringing the squishy steed for soem free-core-hangover-minceing.

I'll be guiding a ride with a hangover

I'll be at a BBQ the night before so my hangover's going to be epic! I'll be bringin up the rear, I might even bring a camera or two just for an excuse to stop and sit down every so often!

I don't want to be a Cassandra but you really shouldn't undertake aerobic/physical activity the night after ingesting blood-thickening agents.

Sunday league Weekend warriors can and do keel over on the football pitch?

That's obviously a conservative route and time estimate given the size of the group. If the ground were frozen, it would obviously be quicker. There is, however, no cafe stop allowance, because I don't do cafe stops during rides... The good thing about the five-hour estimate is that it gives us plenty of time for a post-ride cake and recuperation session. If people want to do a longer route, it could be extended, a loop above Bradwell for example (hint)... 🙂

Joking aside, if the weather's half decent, I'm thinking about riding over to Edale from the Glossop/Hayfield end of things if anyone fancies a steady, scenic roll over either Jacob's or the Roych Clough track.

My own rules - wear a support & no jumps or drops. I do everything else they tell me though.

Nope, sorry Pook, I'm nursing two broken ribs and a torn shoulder so I can't make this one.
I was just asking after steelforreal (Marcus) as he's been off the bike for ages and I know it's been doing his head in.
Please make sure you drag him down Parkin Clough 😆

Oi Ian! Wet or dry I'll hope we save Parkin Clough for when I'm fully recovered, like next year AND a dry day !

Joining this ride is part of my 'rehabilitation' & anyway 20+ down that probably isn't a great idea.

I'm going to enjoy the Pook surprise route & [s]catching up with[/s] err. heckling Hora !!

Thats nothing. His best one was inviting someone up from London (waves at Marwood) to take them out round the peaks. I said I wouldn't mind coming out too.

Then he got leathered on Saturday night and phoned and informed me on Sunday morning that I was meeting him, giving him a lift to the Peaks the guiding on the ride as he couldn't be arsed getting out of bed!

He's ****ing hopeless!

There was also the time he brought Marwood to the Peaks, then didn't ride himself (or is that the same one?

Many years ago nbt and I sat in a carpark in Calderdale waiting for the elusive Hora, who, never turned up.

Edit Ah then you've just answered my question Hora.
