[s]I'll be guiding a ride with a hangover[/s]
Sorry you can't make it Andy
How reckless Pook, i'll never come to one now I know that!
;o)
So is this worth the trip from Ipswich? I was warned off last time as not worth the effort. It would be nice to stretch my legs after a summer pandering to tourists in the mystic east!
Lemon polenta cake will be made if the answer is yes!
I'd do it Sandwich, the one you were warned off from was a more tame ride, this is more traditional peak district stuff, fast wide rocky bridleways and the like.
What were you warned off?
I think it was the Goyt valley one as a few people suggested it probably wasn't worth the drive for the sort of stuff we were riding.
Where are folks parking? Is it still Edale for the start?
What were you warned off?
Knew Hora was coming 😉
sambob my train route will be
Atherton to Salford Cres
Salford Cres to Man Pic
Man Pic to Edale
Have not made my mind up yet as to what time to set off either 7.00 or 7.30am
Dedication right there! I think i'll be on the 9:20 train from Chinley, so i'd imagine you'll be on that one?
I'll see if I'm not working, I've not been on one of these for a long while
Its not just not the same now though this thread. No fluctuating register of planned attendees, no route to merely suggest little tweaks of refinement (though no bikehike makes this harder admitedly) ..
"First part of Cavedale beats all of pindale hands down. Second part awakens you and makes you laugh"

well you know how it is, business dips, you have to lay people off....it's difficult to maintain the same level of service....
Bummer, cant make this one, have fun folks 🙁
Cheers Pook - (Chris). We have met on the first or second Peaks Pootle (I think I gave you a Torx key?) & I do know the area a little.
My current recovery means 15-20 miles will be OK, using the full suss (I know, I know, not really necessary etc.) will ease any issues. And I want to see Hora as it's one of his old frames I'm riding !!!
I will encourage the current Miss4real to go as it should be good. Will confirm here on Friday eve if attending 🙂
Told it was a long way to come for not much excitement. Usually not a worry but the holiday business required my attention that weekend. There are high level discussions about petrol and its cost going on currently. The second rubber queen goes on the bike tomorrow signalling the end of summer.

Can I suggest some route refinements? I suggest that initially we head over Jaggers, then down the so-called Beast, etc, blah, Cut Gate, Trans Pennine Trail, up above Mossley, drop down into the back of Glossop, some nadgery evil, Middle Moor backwards, up Coldwell Clough, South Head, Roych, Rushup, Hollins Cross, trail down to Castleton, back up the Roman Road, Dirtlow Rake, Pindale, Hope, up the Roman Road, then left down Jaggers again, lefthand descent back up to Hollins Cross, over to Mam Nick then the direct descent down to Edale. Should take no longer than four or five hours and neatly avoids Cavedale. If that seems a little tame, it can easily be extended.
steel4real - Orange Five?
nice bwd. wouldn't you stick rangers path and the south downs way in that too for a bit of variation?
4-5 hours on that route in a big group? With mechanicals and punctures that'll extend by 1-2hours BWD easy. Trust me 😆
Hora, If you can do that in 4 DAYS I'll buy you a pint
nice route BWD.. but 4-5 hours??
How long are you stopping in the Cafe, you must have worked in at least an hour I reckon.
using the full suss (I know, I know, not really necessary etc
Pffft, I'll be bringing the squishy steed for soem free-core-hangover-minceing.
I'll be guiding a ride with a hangover
I'll be at a BBQ the night before so my hangover's going to be epic! I'll be bringin up the rear, I might even bring a camera or two just for an excuse to stop and sit down every so often!
I don't want to be a Cassandra but you really shouldn't undertake aerobic/physical activity the night after ingesting blood-thickening agents.
Sunday league Weekend warriors can and do keel over on the football pitch?
That's obviously a conservative route and time estimate given the size of the group. If the ground were frozen, it would obviously be quicker. There is, however, no cafe stop allowance, because I don't do cafe stops during rides... The good thing about the five-hour estimate is that it gives us plenty of time for a post-ride cake and recuperation session. If people want to do a longer route, it could be extended, a loop above Bradwell for example (hint)... 🙂

Yellow card for being the first person to flaunt their slowness in advance... 😉
Hora, if you have nothing useful to say, please shut up
Ok 😳 as long as you ride down Cavedale with me
Hora, if you have nothing useful to say, please shut up
That'll surely be requiring a benedictine-monk-style vow of silence then? 😉
I was hoping to make it folks. My parents were having the kids, but my dads been taken pretty ill this week. 🙁
Have a good 'un y'all
Joking aside, if the weather's half decent, I'm thinking about riding over to Edale from the Glossop/Hayfield end of things if anyone fancies a steady, scenic roll over either Jacob's or the Roych Clough track.

Warfrin chaser's it is then!
+1 for cavedale
I'll post the route later.
now stop bellyaching.
it's good. nbt says so.
Naughty man! We can't mention slowness. As BWD says 'yellow card'.I'll be bringin up the rear,
binners - hope your dad gets well soon 🙁
Don't post the route - keep it as a surprise !
Hora - yes.
don't post the route? really? ok.

Yay Marcus, I wondered when you'd be sufficiently recovered.
Good to hear you're back on a bike.
Ian S
Ssshhh, don't tell everyone, I see my surgeon tomorrow & the physio again next week, have done a little riding but not what they prescribed 😉
My own rules - wear a support & no jumps or drops. I do everything else they tell me though.

Nope, sorry Pook, I'm nursing two broken ribs and a torn shoulder so I can't make this one.
I was just asking after steelforreal (Marcus) as he's been off the bike for ages and I know it's been doing his head in.
Please make sure you drag him down Parkin Clough 😆
30 odd people down parking clough on a Saturday.... now there's a thought! sorry you can't make it.
*parkin. ;o)
I'm in, along with a couple of mates too. Are we still meeting at Edale carpark for a 10.00am set off?
meeting at 10 for a 10.15 off. Allow for some faffage.
Might be the first one I've ever been able to make. Where's the start?
Car park across the road from the train station, Edale
Cheers.
This pootle thread is much friendlier than the first Swinley attempt...Just goes to show us northerners are a nice bunch 🙂
what twang said, im not playing this time chris. probably be late october before ill try weekend riding again (other than with the kids down the jumps).
harry and smiffy say they are going though. shame!
*waves hello and shrugs apology to pootle regulars*
May pop along for this one, could just about manage 20m on an SX Trail 😉
gonna be a good one.
hope mybike works. new brakes and gearing going on tonight.
Oi Ian! Wet or dry I'll hope we save Parkin Clough for when I'm fully recovered, like next year AND a dry day !
Joining this ride is part of my 'rehabilitation' & anyway 20+ down that probably isn't a great idea.
I'm going to enjoy the Pook surprise route & [s]catching up with[/s] err. heckling Hora !!
wotcha got chris? want to borrow a big tool?
20+ down that probably isn't a great idea.
Don't worry, I didn't intend that to be taken remotely seriously :o)
Enjoy.
Get well soon !
just replacement bits tom. Plus, my tool's mighty big enough thankyou.
ecky thump - I know, just can't seem to get smilies working on my phone!

which way are you off up helvellyn?
edited
same way we did the second time you route planned. the ONLY SENSIBLE way.
missing out the surprisingly rideable grassy climbs?
Pook was that the ride where we had to coax your thoroughly jammed chain out of the spokes??
Everyone shot off! I may be out unfortunately. 🙁
no. helvellyn was the one you lot wanted to kill me. sticks pass is teh dogs.
hora, no dropping out on Saturday.
hora, no dropping out on Saturday.
Oh my aching sides. Are you at all familiar with his work?
No I said I can't come now. Have a good un.
he once organised a ride for us Binners, route, meeting place, time etc, then when we got there and rang to find out where he was he said 'edinburgh'.
I expect little else, but its made my route easier to sort.
Thats what sleep deprivation does to you. Memory of a sive 😆
shurrup - you're just bloody useless!
Thats nothing. His best one was inviting someone up from London (waves at Marwood) to take them out round the peaks. I said I wouldn't mind coming out too.
Then he got leathered on Saturday night and phoned and informed me on Sunday morning that I was meeting him, giving him a lift to the Peaks the guiding on the ride as he couldn't be arsed getting out of bed!
He's ****ing hopeless!
As on the Swinley thread, I'm out due to new glasses required. Will attempt to be on the next one.
sorry to hear that sandwich. keep an eye out for future rides
Err that was in early 2005 and I got up, gave him a lift in my then mini.....then I remember going for a hoon 😀
There was also the time he brought Marwood to the Peaks, then didn't ride himself (or is that the same one?His best one was inviting someone up from London (waves at Marwood) to take them out round the peaks. I said I wouldn't mind coming out too.
Many years ago nbt and I sat in a carpark in Calderdale waiting for the elusive Hora, who, never turned up.
Edit Ah then you've just answered my question Hora.
