Bit of a warning for you - the farmer has taken to keeping Highland Cows on that land, they were all over the track last time I went down it. Docile enough as I walked past but the thought of riding round a blind bend and impaling myself on one of their really rather large horns made me glad that I'd seen them a fair way in advance.

A few years back he'd banged a feeding station right in the middle of the track, which was interesting at night in thick fog in an 'omigodd there's a whopping great shaggy cow with pointy horns stood in the middle of the track five metres away' sort of stylee...

Oh, there's some interesting water damage on both Coldwell Clough and the campsite descent. Nothing that's unrideable, but there are a couple of places that are a little more thought provoking than they used to be.

Anyway, may or may not be along depending on various random factors.

I remember this well.
The same farmer also had the feeding station in the middle of the track during a 2 day Peak district event (around 2001) , in which 400 riders took part, it was interesting seeing riders trying to avoid animals who are only interested in their food and are not going to budge on any account.

No can do on this one, can't really have two consecutive Sundays off at such short notice. Give me at least 4 weeks notice next time and I'm in.

Still not sure if I'll make this - depends a bit on the weather in the Borders - but if I do, I'm probably going to ride over from Glossop/Hayfield off road and back again afterwards - either via Cut Gate or the Roych or Jacob's or even partly on road all at a conservative sort of easy like Sunday morning sort of pace with an early start.

If anyone's feeling sociable, you're very welcome to come along - just think of the petrol/train fare savings! 🙂

Couple of questions, if anyone can help - how much does the Edale carpark cost (change needed?) and are there plenty of spaces? And are there public toilets in Edale (I'm driving from north Leics and have a pathetic girly bladder!)?

Cheers, looking forward to this!

1. It's quite expensive - think it was about a fiver last time I was there.
2. Yes.

£6 according to interweb

It's a pretty big car park. Charge is a fiver for more than four hours - website - and there's a public loo right at the side of the car park.

If you don't fancy forking out a fiver, there's free parking on the Barber Booth/Upper Booth road leading up to Jacob's itself - about here - which is only about five to ten minutes ride away from Edale, space for oh, I dunno, about 20 cars, no loo...

Alternatively, if you're a National Trust member, you could park for free in the car park at the top of Mam Nick - here - from where it's about ten minutes or so down to Edale, all downhill, one nice direct descent bridleway, but a bugger at the end of the ride as it's an extra and quite steep climb. No loo either.

Oh, and I should be coming along tomorrow, Chris. Riding over first thing.

Damnit! I just found this! I was thinking 'Next month...I can afford next month'. Nope, there shall be no Swamp Thing present on this pootle. However, I shall now work out the best way to get to Edale via public transport in anticipation of the next. Have a fun ride all!

Just checked my email and responded to everyone (I think!)

10am tomorrow at Edale car park. It's a fiver in change to park. We're doing a 13 mile loop with a bit of climbing, followed by the jacobs ladder descent - then a pint and a bite

There's a few people coming by train which gets in at 10.07 so we'll hang around a bit (as usual!) before we set off along the road then up Chapel Gate.

Right, due to family commitments I have to get back a bit earlier than usual this time, so I'm planning to do the loop starting from Hayfield, hopefully meet up with the official Pook's™ Peaks Pootle® at Edale at 10, ride with the bunch back to Hayfield and then sit and [s]laugh[/s] shout encouragement as you all set off up Coldwell Clough. See yers all tomorrow!

Had intended (and had a pass) to make this one but as I've spent the last 48 (almost) hours in Alder Hey Childrens Hospital with my 9 year old who underwent signficant urgent surgery yesterday I (a) desperately need sleep and (b) have higher priorities elsewhere. Have a good one folks.

Heavy dew and misty in The Valley at 8am but the sun is just cresting the ridge and burning off the mist nicely to leave bright blue sky above - looks like it's going to be a fab day for a Pootle. Top choice of weather Pook! 😀

One of the reasons I don't do big group rides anymore is I can't be doing with 5 hour rides that would normally take me 2.5
