You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Gutted I won't be able to make this, sounds like an ace route as well!
I wont be able to come out to play 😥 I have to go to a meeting
Bit of a warning for you - the farmer has taken to keeping Highland Cows on that land, they were all over the track last time I went down it. Docile enough as I walked past but the thought of riding round a blind bend and impaling myself on one of their really rather large horns made me glad that I'd seen them a fair way in advance.
A few years back he'd banged a feeding station right in the middle of the track, which was interesting at night in thick fog in an 'omigodd there's a whopping great shaggy cow with pointy horns stood in the middle of the track five metres away' sort of stylee...
Oh, there's some interesting water damage on both Coldwell Clough and the campsite descent. Nothing that's unrideable, but there are a couple of places that are a little more thought provoking than they used to be.
Anyway, may or may not be along depending on various random factors.
cheers bwd - good input.
I remember this well.A few years back he'd banged a feeding station right in the middle of the track, which was interesting at night in thick fog in an 'omigodd there's a whopping great shaggy cow with pointy horns stood in the middle of the track five metres away' sort of stylee...
The same farmer also had the feeding station in the middle of the track during a 2 day Peak district event (around 2001) , in which 400 riders took part, it was interesting seeing riders trying to avoid animals who are only interested in their food and are not going to budge on any account.
No can do on this one, can't really have two consecutive Sundays off at such short notice. Give me at least 4 weeks notice next time and I'm in.
Looks like I'm in plus one!
Will bring cake...
Is it okay if me and the misses come. We ride alot around this area (Jacobs ladder route is one of her favourites) but never ridden in a group before......we can bring haribo too!
kbrpro - all welcome on this one.
Sambob - 4 weeks notice? Are you mad? And risk 40 riders rocking up again??!
Okay, email me and put it on the forum two weeks later 😉
like I plan that far ahead!
looks like we might get half decent weather at the weekend folks!
Shh! Don't jinx it!
Still not sure if I'll make this - depends a bit on the weather in the Borders - but if I do, I'm probably going to ride over from Glossop/Hayfield off road and back again afterwards - either via Cut Gate or the Roych or Jacob's or even partly on road all at a conservative sort of easy like Sunday morning sort of pace with an early start.
If anyone's feeling sociable, you're very welcome to come along - just think of the petrol/train fare savings! 🙂
Is it ok if me and my mate come.
I know you do, you just keep it quiet 😉
remedy, of course.
sambob, shush.
Hope to be in attendance.
pook, might make this one, but i am walking speed slow uphill.
will i be ok?
should be fine ton - email in profile though if you want a better description of the route?
Ton, you'll fit in perfectly with me at the back.
skiprat is our 'sweeper'.
Wait til you see his sweeping axes on Sunday
Nowt but sheep on Coldwell Clough last Saturday.
Out for drinks this Saturday so not sure if I'll make it, specially since I'll be taking the train.
^^ lightweight 😉
I fancy it but I have promised to marshall at the brownbacks race, have a good one !!
lightweight
I meant I'd still be drinking until 11am at least! 😉
Last time I was out with solarpowered it took a couple of days to recover the power of sight
Did she do that dance for you too?
Yep, I'll never look at break dancing the same way ever again...
A couple of my friends and I would like to come alone if possible - near 30 year age range and mixed ability/fitness - will bring chocolate flapjack as well...
Ps coming from J25/26 of the M1 so might be able to provide a lift.
carbis, no worries, come along!
another old, old, rubbish video!
The wife and I will join you if we may - we'll be keeping the sweeper company at the back!
May be bringing my neighbour, he's just got his bike back together - 2 more for the Sweeping group!
Put me down as a near certain.
So get yer butt down there Tony!!!!
Have a great time everyone, sadly poor planning on my behalf means I'm travelling up to ride the Peaks next Saturday.
Couple of questions, if anyone can help - how much does the Edale carpark cost (change needed?) and are there plenty of spaces? And are there public toilets in Edale (I'm driving from north Leics and have a pathetic girly bladder!)?
Cheers, looking forward to this!
1. It's quite expensive - think it was about a fiver last time I was there.
2. Yes.
£6 according to interweb
It's a pretty big car park. Charge is a fiver for more than four hours - website - and there's a public loo right at the side of the car park.
If you don't fancy forking out a fiver, there's free parking on the Barber Booth/Upper Booth road leading up to Jacob's itself - about here - which is only about five to ten minutes ride away from Edale, space for oh, I dunno, about 20 cars, no loo...
Alternatively, if you're a National Trust member, you could park for free in the car park at the top of Mam Nick - here - from where it's about ten minutes or so down to Edale, all downhill, one nice direct descent bridleway, but a bugger at the end of the ride as it's an extra and quite steep climb. No loo either.
Oh, and I should be coming along tomorrow, Chris. Riding over first thing.
Ah! yes £5 but £6 for over 24 hours for the (very) old slow fat riders 😉
if tomorrow is anything like today we're in for a stunning ride!
confirmed to attend tomorrow, bringing a mate, excited about it 🙂
Damnit! I just found this! I was thinking 'Next month...I can afford next month'. Nope, there shall be no Swamp Thing present on this pootle. However, I shall now work out the best way to get to Edale via public transport in anticipation of the next. Have a fun ride all!
edale is on the main Sheffield - Manchester line.
Is the chap with the M3 318 estate coming?
Pook,
Nice one. Sounds like a good use of a Sunday.
I'll be there on my brown bike. Maybe +1 too.
Pook - you have mail. 🙂
looks like there should be a good turn out!
Is the chap with the M3 318 estate coming?
the chap will be there
Just checked my email and responded to everyone (I think!)
10am tomorrow at Edale car park. It's a fiver in change to park. We're doing a 13 mile loop with a bit of climbing, followed by the jacobs ladder descent - then a pint and a bite
There's a few people coming by train which gets in at 10.07 so we'll hang around a bit (as usual!) before we set off along the road then up Chapel Gate.
Wonder if he's interested in a px for a standard one plus some money for his? 😉
Caught this a bit late in the day doh!
Caught it all the same though coops!
Right, due to family commitments I have to get back a bit earlier than usual this time, so I'm planning to do the loop starting from Hayfield, hopefully meet up with the official Pook's™ Peaks Pootle® at Edale at 10, ride with the bunch back to Hayfield and then sit and [s]laugh[/s] shout encouragement as you all set off up Coldwell Clough. See yers all tomorrow!
I'll be along Chris if I can get up there after F1. I'm relying on horas car park faffage for a delayed start...
F1 coverage finishes at 9.15am. Handily, that is exactly when skiprat of this parish is picking me up from Sheffield......
Funny how things work out eh? ;o)
Had intended (and had a pass) to make this one but as I've spent the last 48 (almost) hours in Alder Hey Childrens Hospital with my 9 year old who underwent signficant urgent surgery yesterday I (a) desperately need sleep and (b) have higher priorities elsewhere. Have a good one folks.
Looks like I'm definitely in plus one! Bring on the pootling 😀
This is mine and the misses first time out. Glad to see theres F1 fans in attendance 🙂 Hope for a good race in the morning, then a gently mid morning ride afterwards (not the other way round) 🙂
Count me in!
F1 + 318 Touring M3 + Peak district = WINNING!
phil56 I love you man. None of that mano mano stuff. Proper manlove 8) (man)
I'm having a bacon butty in the morning too.
PaulMc - I hope everything goes well for you.
Bunnyhop x
We (nbt and myself) might be there tomorrow.
I'll be the one moaning a lot near the back, you know - too hot, too cold, need a wee, I'm hungry, are we nearly there yet, too rocky too steep etc 🙂
Jane -it wouldn't be the same without you!
Ah glorious sunshine - always makes a pootle.
😀
Heavy dew and misty in The Valley at 8am but the sun is just cresting the ridge and burning off the mist nicely to leave bright blue sky above - looks like it's going to be a fab day for a Pootle. Top choice of weather Pook! 😀
It takes some phone calls.
well we're up amd eating breakfast so I think that means we're pootling
Jules - you've brought the sunshine out in my heart 😛
Last minute bail, got sucked in by the F1 🙄
Have a great one folks.
I will have to do with a local Long Mynd in the sun.
Bah. Girlfriend is going to the gym so I'm on childcare duties. Bit cold to have her on the back of the bike for hours.
I was at work looking out of the window longingly, knowing you lot were having too much fun on your bikes 🙁
Are they even back yet?
One of the reasons I don't do big group rides anymore is I can't be doing with 5 hour rides that would normally take me 2.5
Last time I did this route as a pootle it took a good 6 hours, but that was in the snow.
We are back, great group of people with whom to push a mountain bike up hills in the Peak District. Huge thanks to Chris and Jules for another well organised Pootle.
Good to meet some more folks. I will post the pics up when I have recovered sufficient strength, I am totally bolloxed. 😀
Brilliant. Malteser Cake was great- gave it to hora jnr (pic on facebook but it wont link for some reason) 🙂
Thank you.
Some nice folk on STW and I felt sorry/heartfell for Rachels pint.
Leaving Bradwell to ride Batham Gate and meet the Pootle at the end of Chapel Gate/Rushup Edge
