You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Evening all. Just driven back through Hathersage this evening and there are road closure notices for the 14th for the main road. Am guessing it's their carnival so best avoided if driving out to the valley from Sheff.
cheers roger. though I don't quite.know how to avoid that....
let's say Edale big car park at 10am
There's a few options. A57 and left to Bamford then right at Sickleholme and you are past Hathersage.
Leaving up Ecclesall Rd head for Ringinglow and turn right in front of Stanage Edge, right again as it drops down, right again at v junction then left at junction on road to Sickleholme just down from Yorkshire Bridge. Or head down through Curbar Gap then up through Calvert and Ben Eyam, Foolow, Bradwell, Brought and left to Hope.
Hope that helps.
And tell me the etiquette with 'cake', I believe it's welcomed but are a few regulars responsible? Dread to think about standing on someone's toes!!
Its a bake off
I dont think anyone actually cares
Some of us always bring cakes and some dont the more the merrier
TBH I bring mine because i am vegan and it is the only way I will get any cake ..I usually bring a choice so one is not enough 😉
Do you have a postcode/grid ref for sat nav to find the carpark please, if i'm not working i may pop up for this as i'm a Peaks virgin, sounds ideal ride for an introduction. 8)
cheers nbt
is it free or pay n display?
Any chance I can dump a change of clothes in someone's car while we pootle? Train drivers get angry when I leave bum shaped puddles of mud on their floor/seats.
Yes you can in mine and sure lots will be happy to do this....dont pick Hora as you want the car there when you get back
I will make some honey flapjack yum yum 😀
Car park is pay and display, and it's not cheap: edale, as the start of the pennine way, is a bit of a walker's honeypot. there's "free" parking at the western end of the valley, on the sides of the road toward jacob's ladder. However it gets popular and you'll have to ride down to join the group
I wonder how much it would cost to get a single ticket from edale to the next station, then you could park in the edale station carpark?
Or park in Hope (free) then grab a single to Edale.
Geesh! That sounds like a lot of cake arriving on Saturday! I'll maybe just see if can be bothered on fri night 😕
Any coeliacs out there? Will make the effort if so....
Still can't wait to meet you all !!! 😀
aye it'll be a good crack. For those who've pootled before it will be one of the regular loops. I've got one in mind that's a bit more suitable when it's been raining.
of course, when I say 'crack', I mean 'craic'.
Ordered the new bike on Saturday, just a pity it's unlikely to arrive before the weekend and no sign of a buyer for the old bike yet!!! Legs are feeling surprisingly good after my ironman so it's looking likely that I'll make it!
Do oyou want me to do some baking?? Brownies and banana loaf are my speciality!
just solving the post number / new page bug
fingers crossed for good weather folks. I'm not looking a long range forecasts, but either way the riding will be good.....
As always; the pace is social, and we'll get beer or two after.
And cake. Lots of cake.
It looks like there'll be a few newbies this time so let's all play nice!
New bike arriving tomorrow!! Woo hoo!! When they said 7 working day build queue they lied!! 🙂
Might be an idea to have a little pootle before the main one get it all set up! 😀
wow - where was that from, Hells?
We'll be able to spot the sparkliest bike on the hill come the 14th!
Rachel
On One!!
Got me a Scandal I have!! 😀
Anybody riding clown wheels?
Or just me?
Mine's not ready yet. Soon, my pretty, soon...
😀
Will be sporting one of those funny gearbox thingies for the first time - may go oddly wrong!
Rachel
Bottom bracket fitted ready for the grime.
Ah well, at least it was cheap.
Gearbox? Which one? Sounds interesting.
Ah - it's only a Rohloff!
Ah, a gear hub. Sorry, I got all excited then. Think a rohloff will be working better than external gears this weekend.
Pook's crap at planning routes. I've told him the best one.
I'm still not fully convinced with it though jules....
You do know we're not going on road bikes don't you?
you;ll struggle riding that route on an MTB mate, never mind a road bike 😆
you know me so well
That Hathersage road closure is just for 3/4 hour or so early afternoon, so certainly wont affect getting to the pootle.
I *may* be able to get along to this one 🙂
You do know we're not going on road bikes don't you?
I have a pass for Saturday (thought I'd have to work) but I shall be bringing a sort of glorified road bike. My CX.
I can hear Jules re-planning his route suggestions even now to include every rocky descent in the area...
I can hear Jules re-planning his route suggestions even now to include every rocky descent in the area...
nope, most of them were in there anyway. Your presence is an added bonus.
Anybody riding clown wheels?Or just me?
I'll be clowning around too.
depending on the weather I might change the route again ;o)

Naranjada - MemberI'll be clowning around too.

You bringing the missus?
No she's away in Suffolk. I will bring your seatpost QR with me, unless I see you tomoz for night ride in which case you can have it back then.
Cheers.
pootle is my middle name,i for one will try and attend this gathering of the fellow stw massive..
Soooo. whats the plan/route/meet place/time? Sat?
Saturday, Edale, 10am. Route to be decided when we get there.
Jacobs? 😀 Or we could rerun the Decembers Pootle/Edale ride. That was good.
10am edale car park
Time to go build a bike!! 😀
Is that 10 o clock in the carpark at Edale then?
Just been for a quick loop and the valley is looking green and lush. The trails vary between mud, washed out rocks and triffid alley. Beware the monster nettles! 😀
Nbt I just bumped into two lovely ladies from the nwest female riders club. Jane prob knows them (nice girls( 🙂
bumped into or stalked?

How many are we up to now - roll call Pook?
Climbingpudding you are prob a better rider than you think.
Pooks mate Ben rode his 99 Gt with us (first time off road?) and surprised me thoroughly!
*claps hands* there are lots of girlies this time - whoopee.
Those 2 girls from Chorlton that I bumped into last night? 😀
Oh Emma I can't wait! Gonna be fab meeting the girlies! And yes hora, that's in the sincere, lovely way! 🙂

Pooks mate Ben rode his 99 Gt with us (first time off road?) and surprised me thoroughly!
hahaha. I'll be there on Saturday. Gt and all, I'll sit at the back not being able to keep up.
Well you did. The Ladybower Inn cheeky is a wee bit steep!
26er or 29er??
just as a wee heads up
The A625 is closed at Rushop Edge from 08.30-15.30 everyday (seemingly)
there is a well signed diversion.
Basically stay on the bypass, past the 625 turning, up to the next roundabout, left. at the sharp right bend go left and follow road to top of Mam Tor.
see you all there1
thanks for that Martyn, very welcome info!
do I earn a piece of cake??
I want to come on this 🙁
Going all modern and out there! ....(as much as you can at age 37!) I'm going for the biscuity goodness rather than cake. - totally vegetarian AND gluten free!) 😀
I can tell the ecitement may be too much for people already! 😉
Feeling bad now that I've not been home long enough to actually make anything...
Rachel
[cheeky] if use a marg [ vitalite or Pure] without milk then I can eat them [/cheeky]
pineapple upside down cake
Strawberry scones
might do chocolate muffins
all this talk of cake is definately swaying me 🙂 although may not have time to make any...
Right then chaps here are the FULL details
We're meeting here at 10am. There will be some faffing time, chatting and general 'hey, how are you' stuff - but we'll probably be on our way at 10.15ish. If you need to catch up we are going....
Edale up to Hollins Cross, over to Mam Nick and Rushup Edge, down to Perryfoot and up Eldon Hill towards Dirtlow Rake. Down Pindale and over to Hope, up Hope Brink to Hope Cross and then down Jaggers Clough, back to Edale.
The route is 16 miles (ish) and about 2200 ft of climb. Generally non- techy - good for the newbies amongst us.
Afterwards we will have a pint in the Rambler.
The nearest station to the start is 0.1 miles away: Edale, on the Sheffield - Manchester line.
To park at Edale car park you'll need about a fiver in change. Maybe more.
Cake recipes - this one for me please
Contingency: if the ride is bobbins, we're dropping down Cavedale and up and over Mam Tor by a route that will be decided on the day.
