Hi there,
Just planning a route for the weekend and want to add middle moor to the usual jacobs loop, from the OS I can see two options through middle moor - snake path to hayfield and another route which heads towards Carr Meadow farm?
Can anyone recommend which is better (I appreciate everyone has different views of "better") so descriptions are also good.

Snake path looks ok on google maps / earth but has basically washed away since the pics were taken and is a total push / carry slog, so much so I'd happily ride the road instead

The trail towards Carr Meadow Farm (shooting cabins descent) is most peoples preferred route I think. Certainly mine, a fantastic moorland descent full of flow and interesting features. The descent back to Hayfield (Snake Path) I always do as a climb in order to get to shooting cabins. I'm sure it would be an OK descent too (pretty fast) but generally grassier and less interesting. The purple heather is amazing at this time of year too. Enjoy!
From the shooting lodge on Middle Moor the decent down South to Hayfield is OK but I would be inclined to go across the nice singletrack to Carr Meadow, down the road a bit, turn R and up to the PBW at MatleyMoor Farm. Then South round Lantern Pike, continue to the Sett Valley Trail and back to Hayfield. I assume you are including the BW North then NorthWest past Kinderlow End and down to the reservoir?
I plan to park at Edale, up Jacobs and after about 2k take the north BW to Kinder reservoir, then round the dam and take the BW down to Carr meadow, back into Hayfield, then pick up the Pennine BW all the way back to Rush up and Mam Tor?

Definitely go up Snake Path (all rideable) and down to Carr Meadow Farm. The other route is to go up to the reservoir from Hayfield and take a left up the cobbles from just below the dam which is a leg-bursting challenge of fitness and skill to do it all the way to the gate in one go. If you're coming over from Jacobs (East to West), then join the FP at stony ford which joins the BW over Kinderlow End and past Broad Clough. If it's wet, it'll be a muddy mess, so best avoided. Middle Moor is a classic example of a BW which is less suited to biking than some FPs when it's wet.
Edit: Beat me to it. The only change I'd suggest is to look at that FP at Stony Ford, which is a nice bit of singletrack that takes you onto the BW over to the reservoir.
