I'm staying near Hope/Castleton for a few days this weekend, but have left route planning to the last minute. I'm after a bit of advice on routes that I've not done before.

I've done Cut Gate a few times as well as routes around Ladybower and the likes of Lockerbrook, Cut-throat Bridge, Spud Alley etc.

I've not done Jacob's Ladder, so maybe that's an option? Is there anything heading South from Hope?

Friday I'm thinking of a ride at Lady Cannings, Devils Elbow maybe Stanage area too.
Saturday I'd be up for a longer day-out ride, and then something shorter on Sunday morning.

Any tips? Thanks

Firstly - Blue Steel at Lady Cannings is currently shut following the Ride Sheffield dig-day last weekend. It might re-open this weekend, subject to how its settled following yesterdays rain, but equally possibly not. Plenty of other riding in the area though.

Jacobs is always a good bet and can be extended a variety of ways - into the usual Edale/Ladybower stuff or on the Hayfield side to include Snake Path, Middlemoor, Lantern Pike, Chinley Churn etc.

South(ish) you've got (up) Pindale and (down) Cavedale (can also be added to a JL loop from Hope). or SE Brough Lane and Bradwell Edge. Further than that you're heading into Eyam and White Peak territory, which is a slightly different kind of riding - a bit more '90s mtb for the most part and arguably more fun on a gravel bike (with exceptions)

Hope to Shatton mast, Bradwell descent, bridleway behind the cement works, climb pindale. Dirtlow rake to Mam Nick, rushup edge, Mount famine, climb upto and descend Jacobs ladder, then a choice of Edale Road back to hope, or climb Greenlands and descend into Castleton.

If you do one ride, do the Hope Triple 8.

Jacobs Ladder is also a classic route.

Do you have the option of a shuttle? 😉

Get someone to drop you at Mam Nick.
Rushup Edge
Roych Clough
Coldwell Clough
( optional shooting cabins via cobbles at the side of the dam ( only if you like lung busting climbs))
Jacobs.
Back up to Mam Nick, either via Chapel Gate and Rushop, or via the road.
Down Toboggan to Greenlands Farm
Up to Hollins Cross ( another eminently cleanable ascent)
Down to Backtor
Cafe stop at adventure cafe in Hope.
Up Pindale, down Cavedale.
Collapse in a heap

Signs at lady cannings Say blue steel closed till 25th when I rode past on Sunday. Wouldn’t bother heading there specifically but blacka for devils elbow piper house and lots of other steep fun options is a great spot for anything from 1-3 hour blasts. I’m heading there shortly😀
Not much to add to the above advice other than do jacobs ladder and cavedale if you’ve not done them before and enjoy steep loose rocky fun.

Thanks for the tips on this one. We didn’t actually get across to Jacobs, but certainly enjoyed some new stuff.

Cavedale is interesting on a hardtail! Obviously popular with walkers too.
