Hi all

I fancy having a go at this and saw that a few from ST did it last year - looking at it, it seems that’s there is a mix of road and off road - which brings me to my quandary - bike and tire choice - is there a happy medium !

I was going to take the salsa Fargo with some exo-Terra’s on, but then if the off road bits are mucky, it’s going to get interesting - other choice is the HT carbon MTB with something like High Rollers on, or rocket Ron’s !

I see from last year that anything too aggressive in terms of trend was a bit over kill ?

best

I'm probably doing it.

On a MTB (as my road bike is a 'proper' road bike).

I rode the shorter route with a mate a few months back on a cross bike with a G-One on the back and a WTB Cross Boss on the front, I think. It was fine, though wasn't particularly wet at the time. The bulk of the route was quite well surfaced and there's a fair bit of back-laning. There was only one short section where the cross bike was properly out of its depth, but the rest of the time it was good.

Hi - did the 75 (5 extra for getting lost) last year and doing it again this year (not the being lost bit).

Hardtail with Rocket Rons up at 50 psi.  Mate did it on his gravel bike.

Only real one bit that you would really call MTBing.

This year I have just fit Thunder Burts to make it easier to keep up with my mate.

If I was doing it again (I’m not, on account of it being more road than off road) I’d do it on a rigid mtb or gravel bike, with semi slick tyres

Certainly it has lots of old train line activity and some road......doubt it is actually more road though.

I'm in and on the hardtail rather than the gravelly bike thing - but that's mostly because I've come to realise I don't actually enjoy getting shaken to shinola nowadays. I've tried a few of their events on each, and I'm not enough of a racing snake for it to make much performance difference.

If CX bikes are your thing though, I can only think of a couple of small sections that you might tiptoe down, whereas I might go hell for leather.

I'll be there in once capacity or another - I was the short route sweep rider last year.
