... and I am sat here groggy from the drugs with a very numb shoulder that I dislocated last night.
Steep and a little technical (for me) and tried to maintain too much control, avoided first over the bars moment by letting brakes off, avoided second over the bars moment by hitting a tree at the hight of my flight.
Still clipped in and holding bars, barely quicker than a jog but caught the tree just perfectly to push my shoulder out.
Last time I dislocated my (other) shoulder they told me to ring for an ambulance, which took a while to find us (yea, we will be taking a map in future, lesson learned there) so I could get entonox more quickly.
Morphine was ok but not all I was hoping for for my first experiment with opiates but whatever they used to knock me out when putting it back worked a treat, even if it did mean leaving hospital at 1:40 this morning.
Am impressed by my ability to land on my feet during the crash (no flailing down the trail, now that would have stung a bit!) and how I have been riding recently (and yes, I am fully aware that that was my pride, and this is my fall) but gutted that I will be off for a while.
Must, maintain, fitness.
Must, get training 🙂

p.s. Thanks Dave, Gav and Alison for sorting bike out and to Penny, the only nurse who had the sense to ask if my bike was OK!

OK, starting to get bored of the dull ache now but more annoying is that at the fracture clinic they seem to think the large numb patch below my shoulder is normal and due to nerve bruising. They also think it could be 6 months before the numbness gives way to normal sensation.
Anyone else had this? Feels bloody weird frankly.

If it helps I took mine out the sling after the first two days and started with a light weight my own careful phsyio. Was playing Rugby again two weeks after. Did have the occasional partial dislocation thereafter when putting my arm behind my back to scratch an itch but I am totally against all this immobilise stuff and all for the MTFU and start using it. Less muscle wasteage=-stronger in the long run in my opinion and experience.

Am a little bothered about loosing fitness (and am pretty sure I will miss riding) but am a little freaked by the numbness. Have already expressed an interest in when my physio will start (made a huge difference to my other shoulder when I did that one) and they said they would not bother with any!
We left that one with "we will discuss my needs in 2 weeks when I go back".
One way or another, I will be undertaking some supervised physio, I am a believer.
