the Parkwood is dead, want something similar to cross deck the kit to
needs to run 120mm tapered forks, 3x9 gearing
Dartmoor Primal 29? looks a straight swap
Stanton Sherpa? very top of budget
what else? going for new to get some warranty on it
L/XL frame size
Another Parkwood?
So tempted to pick up a Primal just to try out... Looks ace. But tbh if you liked it, but you don't want another, how about a fireline? They're not that common used but usually well priced since they were so cheap new.
Nukeproof scout 290? One of the few that take a front mech, & comes in a proper XL size
Second hand trek stache (not the elevated stay version)
I'd prob get a ragley bigwig. Steel lifetime warranty, 450 from CRC but you might get a BC discount. Just no XL sizing yet
Had my eye on a primal but the odd size headtube put me off.
Out of interest how did the parkwood die? Pretty cheap to replace like with like (they are £149 on ebay site, possibly V1 frames?), but the Primal does look great value too. It's just a pretty standard tapered headtube isn't it, same as the parkwood? The steel options like the bigwig and stanton look great, but they're quite expensive.
Solaris.
Chromag Rootdown
Nukeproof scout is 142 rear axle, need 135
Solaris, none my size in stock
Zealous division can't do 3x9
Ragley bigwig 142 rear (without adapters), designed around a 130mm fork with external cups
Chromag rootdown, for 140mm+ forks
Parkwood cracked above the seat stays on the seat tube
still with the original two alternative choices
I guess if you don't want to get another parkwood then i'd go for the primal because it seems good value. Or get a new back wheel and scout?
I've been thinking of swapping my lurcher frame for something slacker so in the same boat.
I thought the primal looked very short.
Last fast forward looks interesting.
Ragley looks good too, if they are doing Parkwoods for 149 then it's hard to look past that, 2 days wages for a frame!
3x9 gearing
I think it's time to move on! I can't see any reason to use a 3x setup. No need to carry that much weight. Also can't you just change your rear axle to go 142?
bigjim - MemberI thought the primal looked very short.
Looks pretty reasonable? 1160 for the medium and 1190 for the large, that puts it pretty average in the big honkin 29er stakes. Not as long as I'd like but I couldn't call it short...
I would do a Bigwig at 120 (if your forks can't be raised) but only because I have fondled them and they are lovely. I am guessing your point about the external cup is that you don't have a tapered steerer so would lose another 10mm using an inset up? Just fit a crown race adapter then a lower cup for 44mm tapered. Then if you upgrade forks in the future no need to change headset. They sell the frames as being 120/130/140.
But mainly that blue..... it's lovely..
The donor Parkwood has internal cups for the headset, forks is tapered
On none evo pro2 hubs so not sure that I can convert to 142
I am happy with 3x9 so not changing, a 1x setup isn't going to work for me in any case
How does the large primal compare to a 20" Parkwood?

Yeah you just need to change the axle as well as the end caps.

it's all on the respective websites

I guess I've been ruined by my Transition, everything seems short now.
Check the steerer will cope with the Sherpa's longish headtube and don't forget the Sherpa has external bearings which add almost another 10mm. I've nearly bought a frame but my donor forks are 20mm too short!
steerer should be fine but budget goes up if a new headset is needed
trying to find out if the ebay Parkwoods come with a warranty or I'll wait and get a fireline when they come into stock
would prefer to go steel this time but want to keep the costs reasonable
