Just to give anyone think of riding Ashton Court and parking at Longwood lane the heads up, I was given a £30 parking fine by a Police man this morning.
He told me the road has a 24 hour clearway in operation and this is sign posted at both ends of the road.
I have to admmit I have never noticed these signs, but wouldn't park along the road as it too narrow, however I have often parked in what I assumed to be a layby by the quarry entrance. I'm not the only person to park here and there was a second car that got a ticket.
Good to see they are so hot on this, just a shame they can't use some of these resources to tackle the bike thieves that have been following people home from the main carpark, which is the reson I parked there inthe 1st place!
That sucks! I always park on Pembroke rd, nice little warm up before hitting the trails 🙂
Isn't there double yellow lines there?
Na it's fine, Pembroke Vale is also ok.
No, meant on longwood lane where Gus parked.
No,
but looking on google maps street view I think there used to be.
Don't need a dyl on a clearway. However, the layby you were in is only included in the clearway if It's part of the public highway.
Having looked at the road lay out on google street view. It appears the lay by is actually part of the enterence to the quarry from the road and therefore I assume part of the highway. Therefore the Policeman is right, I just wish it was a bit more obvious!
Mind you I was parked to the left of the quarry enterence, on street view the to the right of the enterence the words keep clear are written on the road!
Like I said I have park there before and I often see people parking there before going for a ride. So think there are a few people who could learn from my mistake.
The best bit was the quarry is closed today, so I was hardly causing a problem, unlike the bike thieves!
Might not be included in the order then. The clear way would be on "smith road" in the traffic regulation order. Sounds like you parked on the quarry access road. If you were behind the back of the footway of "smith road" you were probably somewhere else and if the quarry is the only thing up there, maybe even on private land.
