I remember reading a few years back that Parkamoor has been sanitised. A few of us are thinking of heading to the Grizedale area for a ride and im wondering if nature has worked it's magic and weathered the trail back to how it used to be? Is it worth including in a loop? Anything worth doing instead? It's a fair few years since we were there last.

Short answer: No, the weather has not significantly undone any of the "improvements" made to the route.

It is still possible to ride up without putting a foot down, even for a moderately fit forty-something chap.
If descending:
(a) Risk of upsetting a few red-socks on the busier summer weekend days since you'll be going fast.
(b) Risk of finding the Kankku lot driving up or down. TBF there are very few unsurfaced roads they're allowed to use.

For a excursion through the trees down to the main road. It has its moments, and still spits you out on the road not far from High Nibthwaite.

Aye. Not a fun as it once was but still fun.

I am there this weekend with a mixed group. Will probably head down there on Sunday. May even take the treeline offshoot suggested above.

If you're riding within Grizedale, then there's not much point in heading all the way down to Nibthwaite, and the Parkamoor descent is no longer good enough to justify it the extra schlepping to get back into the forest.

I would head left at High Parkamoor and go down Grandad, Dad and Dentist/Three Witches instead as it drops you into Satterthwaite and makes getting to your next section easier. I've not ridden it since Storm Arwen though, hopefully it's in decent nick.

Grandad, dad, dentist is indeed open and in reasonable nick. There was felling on the central section which made things a bit dull for a while, but it’s now packing down and some great rock fins are appearing.

It may not be as good as it was, but still enjoyable and plenty of chance to pop off things.

Plus, including Parkamoor in a loop is all about riding high up alongside Coniston with great views.

Interested in this tho...thanks AlexanderSmith

Yeah, the top section down to the farm/stream is well worth doing. It used to be that carrying on to Nibthwaite was great, with the section over to Ickenthwaite worth the climb up Bletherbarrow Lane. Now both have been sanitised, not so much, and I tend to only ride Parkamoor - Nibthwaite if I'm carrying on over Woodland Fell.

Seconded lapierrelady re: Grandad, dad, dentist.
Went down it on Sunday. Much LOLZ.
I've heard folk refer to it as "Three Witches" but it's the same line.

What style of bike are you thinking of taking? Could be a bit tame if over-biked. I rode Grizedale loops & Parkamoor descent last summer on my gravel bike; it was good fun if a little jarring. Next time I’m in the area I’ll ride a hardtail, that’d be a perfect match to the terrain.

Just to close this one off, we decided to go for it anyway, doing a ride starting in nr Satterthwaite and was pleasantly surprised to find the top section of Parkamoor, while not back to it's prime, still a fun blast. We took the option below, and it was a great suggestion, adding a bit more fun just at the point the descent levels out and gets a bit boring.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.
