So what is the earliest anybody here has had their kids riding to school on a bike? Today I am putting a claim in for first day at school minus 9 and a half months 😉

Oh, and just for completeness, here's a video of him a week or so ago when he first rode:

Mine has ridden the 3 miles to nursery a fair few times 🙂 I think the first time was just before his 4th birthday.

I think some of the rides are even on Strava 😉

My youngest was riding to nursery aged 3 - about two weeks before he turned 4] so also 9 months ish before he started school- he was also superb in a straight lines but braking and steering [ aiming as he called it] were largely beyond him.

Have some proud daddy slaps on the back from me - be warned it takes a few years before they actually get any real pace but you have many years of joy ahead of you

The eldest was 3 years 4 months and a week (just checked the date on my Flickr page) when he rode a 'bike with pedals'. That was April this year and since the middle of August he's been doing the 7.5 mile round trip to Symonds Yat for an ice-lolly quite regularly. He'll be 4 in about 4 weeks time.

Uber proud moments for both of those events. I think I was about 7 or 8 when I rode a bike properly.

Boring video of him riding back from the ice-lolly run recently.

My 3 week old can already pull backflips, so put that in your collective pipes and smoke it 😛

So technically, you're still 2 weeks away from even creating this little person...?
😉

My youngest was 3 when he first rode. He had been on a Rothan since about 18 months though. What I found is that, even though they have the balance its the srtength to actually pedal that eludes them.

Yeah about 3 years old to nursery. Both ride to school every day and are 4 and 7. Only really foul weather do I spare them being lashed with torrential rain.

Oldest was doing an 8 mile round trip at 3 1/5. He's an incredibly fit boy now, but rarely rides his bike.

My lad got riding somewhere around four. There was no 'eureka' moment, it was a gradual progression so no particular date to remember 🙁

Ah, but this was riding to school - nursery doesn't count 😉 He did get a complimentary comment from the mum of the kid who was his nearest rival on our particular school run (I expect to see him on the school run with pedals in a few weeks now - mum was obviously busy working on him copying now he's seen it can be done).

I long ago gave up on the idea of winning the "youngest to ride" one-upmanship game, as he's still quite small and weak for his age (yes the strength to pedal was an issue) and quite a late starter on the Rothan - he is still only just 3 1/2 though. His older brother is bigger and stronger, so might have managed to ride a pedal bike on his 3rd birthday, but is an obstinate one and couldn't be persuaded to try until he was actually a month or so older than little brother.

For my boy it wad the first day off his Rothan and on his new 'bike with pedals' as he called it. Balance bikes are fantastic for just getting them straight onto a proper pedally bike.

My lad was riding to pre-school everyday from 2+4months (he wasnt tall enough before that!) on his balance bike. He then cycled to pre-school on his first hotrock without stabilisers everyday from 3years 0mths.
He was much the talk in our little village 🙂

He seems to have lost a little interest in the bike recently though 🙁 I think partly down to me only taking him to big school on Tuesdays. He rides then.

I win! My littlest boy has been doing the school run on a pedal bike (no stabilisers) since he was 22 Months!

Before that he did it from about 19 months on his Puky.
