Has anyone any experience of these jaqckets? They look quite well speced but read that the tail isn't that long so wet bum.
Just tested one - didn't feel tail length was a problem and found the waterproofness/breathability excllent. But I found it a bit warm for mountain biking and going hard on the road bike (esp in hilly terrain) - perfect for easier going at speed where I had a good airflow. I'd wear it for commuting, very cold mountain biking, or if I didn't ride too many hills.
I've had one for a month or so. I don't know where the tail not being long comes from, I'd say it's quite long enough, but I guess it's all relative to your proportions. Ime the only way to avoid a wet arse is a good mudguard anyway.
Other stuff: they're cut on the large side, if you want a closer fit, you may find yourself going down a size. The hem doesn't have a drawcord, which is fine if it fits your butt snugly, but means there's no way of tightening it up if it doesn't. I was a little suspicious of the fixed hood, but it doesn't seem to be intrusive in use, even on the road, and I like the high collar at the front for neck protection in the cold.
It uses a different, perforated version of Paramo's liner, so it's slightly lighter than traditional Paramo stuff, but still warmer than average. If you run warm, you may find it too hot in anything other than quite cool conditions - sub-zero in my case. Breathability as good as ever.
I find the pit-zip/core vents hard to completely open on the move, but as they unzip from either end you can open either or both ends leaving the zip-pulls in the centre, which stops the vents billowing open, which is neat.
I like the way the chest pockets are placed for use on the move, but they could, arguably, be larger. And I found the zip on the rear pocket very fiddly to use with gloves on. It needs a bigger zip-pull and a slicker-running zip.
I actually prefer their Enduro mountaineering jacket for deep winter mountain biking after using a Velez Smock for years - the cut is neater on the Endure fwiw.
And I wish they made the Ciclo in red rather than either fluoro or a slightly anaemic blue, it's a bit all or nothing.
Dunno if that helps. If you're a Paramo convert already, I guess it does the job, but I'd try for fit before buying and be a little wary of the lack of a hem cord. All imho etc... sorry for blathering on 😕
As fan of Paramo kit Iwas hoping I would like the Ciclo but it seems they have not really beaten the overheating problem. My walking cagoule only gets used when the temperature drops so I cant see me spending £200ish for two months ayear. However Paramo does last a long time and always responds well to re proofing unlike Goretex which in my experience never is quite the same again once you start rep roofing .
