I've had a 29er hardtail for 18 months now and I really like many aspects of it and being 6'3" tall it's nice to not feel perched on top of it. However it is a older 29er design and only has 80mm travel up front, a steep head angle, and longish chainstays. That was great for most of the flatter local trails and was ok at Cwmcarn (although SS was tough on the climb!), but I don't feel confident using it on the steep, slow, and technical trails and they have also rebuilt some of the manmade local trail with tight berms and rollers that just dont suit the geometry.
The Mythic (Banshee) Paradox and Canfield Yelli Screamy both appear to have the geometry that might be just what I want. Does anyone have any comparisons between the two or any other suggestions?
For reference most of the riding will be in Bristol but with occasional trips to Mendips, Quantocks, FoD, trail centres. I intend to run it SS or 1x10 with a 100-120mm fork.

I briefly had a Paradox and now have a Y-S. Very confidence inspiring (for me anyway!) on downs and works well in the woods. Although the ha is slack it's no slower through tight turns than my ti 29er, presumably down to the short cs. Let me know any specific questions. I've ridden it on Quantocks, Mendips and around Aviemore.

Using 120 maxle Rebas and 1x9 (although I might well ss it).

As you changed to a YS I assume you prefer that, any particular reason?

The tapered ht on the YS would be a winner if for no other reason than the tapered Rebas that One-One have at the moment. Unfortunately I don't think the YS is in stock at the moment.

I am afraid you won't get a yelli as they are all sold. The Canfield N9 is available soon, if enough people are interested I might bring a few frames over

Longer ett, shorter cs. Paradox was cheap and let me try the concept; originally wanted a N9 (which was meant to be out before the Y-S) but couldn't resist the Y-S. I might be tempted to sell the Y-S if Si sold me a N9 at a reasonable price...

i have a paradox and love it. 120/20mm rebas.
my main stomping ground is the borders(GT, inners, 'natural' stuff roond doon there...) and it has been cracking. rode it last summer for a coupla weeks in nelson, BC and never felt HUGELY outgunned....
i love it for jumping, riding uphill/steeps/trees/rocks etc..

never tried a Y-s, though.

The Paradox is a fantastic bike that's more than capable in the places you're looking to use it.

Here's a few shots of mine.

Si - What would the UK pricing for the N9 be? Could be interested if it lands in the next few months. If not when would the YS be available again?
The HX2 looks nice but the CS looks fairly long

The Obed looks too steep a HA?

I just read 71.5degrees on the Litespeed website, I can't image 120mm forks make that much difference to the angle.
They're not a bad price at Rutland Cycles though (for a titanium frame that is).

Don't think the Obed is designed for 120mm forks either and cs not that short? Looks nice though!

Like Clink I have owned a Paradox and a Yelli.

I find the Yelli a better fit ( I'm 6' 4" and the Yelli is a large ), really like the standover, love the slacker head angle and it lighter. Really wish it had ISCG tabs like the Paradox

They are both great bikes and the Paradox is available and cheaper.

If you're anywhere near Reading you're welcome to try the Yelli

Thanks for the offer Martin, I drive past Reading on the M4 fairly often but then again I'm not sure I want to try something I might really like then not be able to buy. Mind you the lack of reasonably priced thru axle 29er forks means the Paradox isn't ideal either.

You certainly know your 29ers!
The Chupacabra has some nice detail, the CS is 1" longer though. Lack of UK distributer is a pain too.

Might be worth researching Vassago on mtbr too - make some nice frames but have been issues with customer service apparently...

Nothing useful to add, but ssst's Paradox is the 1st 29er that's made me interested in the trying one.
I'd ask to try it, but am scared I might like it 😐
