I've just discovered that one side of my rear rim got dented today. What should I do now?
(Novice at bike mech - please be kind)
I'm not currently running tubeless but was planning to soon.
Thnx

Keep riding it. If you really want to, clamp a shifting spanner into the dent and slowly work it back into line

Hey i had a similair issue and was basically tiold 'that's what happens to mtb rims' . You can bend it out little by little if you like , but I'd leave it and only really try to fix it if it creates problems with sealing the tyre

The first thing you should do is High5 yourself for being awesome enough to dent your rims! Rad!!

Then, have a look at the dent and decide if it's big enough to "worry about". i.e. is if big enough to weaken the rim, or big enough to cause the tyre not to seal etc. I'm sure any decent local bike shop would advise on those points. Also, check if the rim still spins true (turn bike upside down, spin wheel, hold a pencil, or similar object against the side of the rim as that will help your eyes "see" any out of roundness etc!

I personally wouldn't recommend trying to bend it back. It's very easy to fracture a decent sized dent by bending it back. Just get it checked for true and spoke tension and carry on.

My rear rim has about 6 or 7 dents in it, including a massive flatspot, where the rim is joined it is starting to split, i'm still riding it and it's fine 😛 It is a downhill rim and expected to handle this kind of thing, a season in the alps and racing fort william probably didn't help..

If you're really concerned stick a pic up here for appraisal.

But I found a dent in my rear Crossmax rim today, deviates a couple of mm inward from where it should be.

Still holds air tubeless so I'll leave well alone.

I always gently pull dents out. Never had a problem doing that.

As with the general concensus above, if it runs true leave it well alone. Can't comment about tubes set up though. I did have a dent a few months back which grew (thanks to a nice big rock) into a full on wobbly rim. LBS sorted me out for £20; rim re-aligned and a few replacement spokes. So if you're really concerned a trip to your LBS should put your mind at ease.
