Want to spruce up my hardtail a little, so considering painting the rims metallic blue (similar to this http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5577092/).

However, as theyre just DT Swiss 5.1Ds, I half expect them to bend next ride, so don't want to spend loads of money in taking them apart, getting them powdercoated, and then rebuilt.

So thinking of a bodge job, just taping around the nipples and spraying them whilst fully built.

But, any thoughts on what paint to use which won't chip liek crazy (and is available in blue)?

Thought of Hammerite spray, but is it any good? Does it need a cover coat?

Ta, Duane.

Dulux would probably help for this...

Why not just get some new rims properly powder coated or resprayed then re build.

Sell the rims you have while they are still round enough to be useful to someone else.

Don't think 5.1Ds have much resale value 🙁

IME no hand-applied or spray paint is very chip-proof, but I don't think rims see as much damage as you'd think (Vicar etc)
