I've got some tatty old carbon forks which I would like to make look nice again. I've also got an offer of the loan of a HVLP spray gun - a Fuji thing which looks quite good.

Does anyone have any tips as to what paint I need to get? I'm guessing I'll need to do lots of thin coats, and possibly some clear coats on top? It's going to be black (matt ideally) so no fancy colours just yet.

Thanks!

Not really my area but car paints would probably the easiest to get hold of? Depending on what you bought would depend on coats. Unless I've been trying to achieve a high build for a specific reason I've always managed to get away with one coat. But my spraying has been industrial - PU, Polysiloxane type stuff at 100-150µm wet.

There's a knack to it but it's not that hard to do small object. Muchh harder to do large flat surface! A quick google and I liked this video for it's explaination

You'll need a well ventilated area, goggles and a solvent mask to be safe.

Two pack paint and lacquer is the best but tends to contain isocyanates. Some people will argue that you can spray these with an a1b2 filter if you're outside. Others say it's not worth the risk without a full face air fed mask.
