I have an old gt frame that i want to build up as a surprise for my brother ( as it was his frame originally), but although i want to do a good job, i am really wanting to do it for as little as possible.
The frame is tatty, its a steel hardtail and i want to tidy it up. I will strip it back to bare metal but whats the best way to get a tidy paint job for the least amount of money? Rattle cans and lacquer? Any advice appreciated
no need to strip back.
Good finish with spray cans is possible, it won't be durable tho.
Pro job can be £50.
Can probably get it powder coated cheap, when I had mine done the guy said if I was doing it something like black (depending what else he was doing) and he could do it with other parts the price would drop to about £40.. I had it done with a metalic flip in & colour of my choice for £65...
It will cost you somethig like that for cans, wet n dry etc & as Al says it wont be as durable.
If you do spray it I recently bought lots of spray paint cheap from eBay(another project), go to a shop & its very expensive.
Bornes in Birmingham will strip and powder coat it for £25. You'll spend nearly that on a rattle can job.
If you can get all the paint off I'll powder coat it for you f.o.c You'll have to pay postage here and back but happy to help. ONCE ONLY OFFER...lol Email in profile
