Been getting pains in my hips after riding my bike, when im on my bike my hips feel ok but 2 days after i get a nagging pain that lasts for about a week. Can cycling actually wear your hips out and is road cycling better for your joints over mtb? Any ideas

Is yr saddle too high, making your hips rock as you pedal ?

I'd think biking is way better for your hips than many other forms of exercise (swimming best though, I suppose, unless you're a breaststroker)

I'd bet it is soft tissue. A work colleague of mine had some hip issues (he cycles a lot and goes to the gym alot) and he was having some general aches and pains. He invested in a couple of sports massage sessions and during one of those session the masseur noticed something amiss with one of his legs and suggested he went to a physio. Anyway a few sessions at the physio had identified he was working one side of a joint harder than the other, and that was throwing his whole leg out from the hip down when cycling and running which was causing the pain. the physio set him some exercises to strengthen the weakened muscles and its sorted him right out - he feels reborn!

I can recommend sports massages, I've had a couple. They are agony at the time, but you feel great a coupe of days later and feel better on the bike after, or whatever activity you're upto. Not cheap, but worth it.

I tend to set my saddle on the low side so my knee still has a bend at full extension.

I did see a ciropractor last year for the same issue and he half sorted it but this time it feels more in the joint than muscle or soft tissue.

I had pain in both hips since doing a demo day at Laggan in April 😥 It was at the front of the hip/groin area. The Xrays came back normal & Mrs Davesport (Podiatrist) reckon'd it would most likely be tight hip flexors. I'm not a fan of stretching before or after exercise but the hip flexor stretches have reduced the pain by about 95 % from day 1.

I'd do some stretches & see what happens. Nowt to loose etc 8)
