Hi,

I've been told that the stock pads that come with TRP Spyre-c brakeset are pretty garbage.
If I replace them, which should I go for? The bike is a 2018 caadx used for commuting duties - running stock rotors. Ideally non-squealers!

Cheers,
Andy

I've used Uberbike Race Matrix  and the last ones I fitted were standard Shimano. Both have been good and do seem better than the originals. Squealing seems to have been less of an issue with the Shimano's but maybe that's just because it's been relatively dry since I fitted them.

Shimano m515 pads or equivalent will work

You can also use XT pads, the more recent ones, if you can bothered to file/grind some width off the backing plates - they're slightly longer then the 515 pads. You may also have to use the springs from the original pads. Gives you more choice of pad brands and means they just sweep the rotor surface rather than the 'arms'.

Uberbike Race Matrix. They are amazing on the Spyres. I found them to be more powerful than when I was running TRP or Shimano's plus they are lasting well.

I've always run with organic compounds (Superstar, Uberbike) for my road/cx disk bikes - they brake a little better, stay quiet and don't wear out too quickly like they do on an mtb. Have done this on Spyres, HY/RD and Ultegra hydros.

The stock ones were awful on my Spyres, I thought I'd fitted the brake wrong somehow.

Shimano M515 organic for me. They still squeal in the wet, though.

Running Shimano organic on mine. Still squeel in the wet though 🙁

I gave the discs a pretty thorough going over with 180 grit wet and dry on a mechanical sander to try and take them back to original surface, am tempted just to bit the bullet and buy new rotors and bed them in with the Shimano pads.
