My Google-fu is weak on this one 😉

I'm only finding shorts for ages 8-9 upwards. Even the normally reliable Decathlon hasn't got anything suitable.

She's easily doing rides of 10-15km now, and after about 5km I get complaints that her 'bottom' is hurting!

Any good (but not too expensive) suggestions?

Take a look at Polaris. Sizing can be a bit on the large side for the indicated age though.

Apart from that its good kit, both of the Beamlets (11 and 5 are riding in their shorts.)

Ah, Polaris, I'd not thought of them. Cheers.

Their Btwin kit sizes up small - my six year old daughter fits their eight year old shorts. It's good quality stuff.

We found that the Scott kids ones came up very small, they can usually be had at a discount on Start Fitness.

Altura maybe?

Local cycle clubs/CX groups often useful if you don't mind second hand.

I was going to suggest decathlon as the clothes. Mini has some Madison Youth trail shorts which are very generous, You could try sizing down on a pair of those.

I went through this with our six year old daughter; she was getting incredibly sore. Took ages to find any decent padded shorts, they weren’t cheap and even worse she hated wearing them :O

In the end, the answer came from Halfords; a Selle Royal - Royal Gel. It was a game changer as soon as I put it on. She’s done 35 miles in the last couple of days and not a single comment about a sore bottom...

I can only comment for a slim 6/7yr old boy but he seems happy with the DHB kids shorts from Wiggle.

I’ve just bought my boy a pair of endura padded boxer, he’s 7 but he’s in size 9/10 years shorts, he’s 4ft 4” tall

I stopped mid sentence up there...

I was going to suggest decathlon as the clothes Mini has are sized up, I would think the 8yrs rockrider shorts would fit her well, as they are also cut slim as well as small.

Cool, I'll try a pair of the age 8 Decathlon shorts then (well, I won't try them!!)

I was thinking if getting her a shorty wetsuit for the Summer holidays, and done other outdoor bits and bobs, so it's a good excuse to browse the Decathlon site.

Might be because of the saddle.

Tried a couple of saddles already.
She tends to ride quite forward on the nose of the saddle.
It's a new bike (to her), so she's at the lower end of the height range. As she grows into it she'll hopefully sit back more.

We'll see if the shorts help, and then try other things if not.

Maybe tilt the saddle down a bit

Just as a follow up, I orders the 8yr cycling shorts from Decathlon for her, and they fit fine.
Little bit roomy, but not stupidly oversized.
Will do the job for the next year or so.
Quality seems decent, and padding looks good.
Bargain at only £4.99!

Cheers for the advice all 🙂
