Looking for a lightweight waterproof jacket that will easily pack away into a jersey pocket on road rides, and of course keep me dry when it comes out.
Not massively fussed about breathability - I tend to only wear a jacket when it rains. So long as it's not completely airtight in there, I'm cool with that. I was just gonna replace my £10 Decathlon jacket with another, but something a bit less bin-bag-like would be nice, and even with waterproofing it doesn't bead well.
Are there any must haves out there without paying stupid prices?
It does need to be a proper waterproof by the way, for serious weather. Already have a showerproof jacket which does me for short rides and finer days.
Probably looking for something more durable than super light race-capes. Maybe my perception of them is wrong but I had one once and it just tore to pieces anytime it touched anything.
Montane Velo .
Light , packs down to the size of cricket ball ( XL ) fairly waterproof, although shower proof is the reality. Couple of vents in the shoulder blade area, and afew bits of scotchlite .
Cheap too I think i paid £35 for mine give or take.packing sack has a loading velco strp so you could put it under your saddle if you dont carry a saddlebag
Not cheap but a cracker.

I've one of the lightweight Endura ones, not the silly race weight. Can't remember the model but it packs up suitably small enough to fit in to a jersey pocket or a small bidon. Cost about £60-70 from memory.
Problem I see is that any proper waterproof is easily destroyed by crumpling it up to pack down small. Not sure if any coatings/treatments withstand this better, but in my experience it only takes a few scrumplings up to reduce a waterproof to a windproof.
Howies Dyfi active shell, about £40, has proved a great addition to my kit this winter. Not used it in a total downpour, but light, certainly showerproof and not boil in the bag.
They may have replaced it with hooded version though, can't see it on their website anymore ?
