Am looking for rim brake clincher rims for a CX/Gravel bike.

Hard to look past Kinlin XR-26RTs, 19mm internal, asymmetric rear, 460g.

Buuuuuuut, the Pacentis are 20mm internal, also asymmetric rear, also 460g, plus they have tarty looking stickers and an Italian name (hey, at least I can admit these things matter to me!).

Just worried that they're actually both Kinlins and I'm being mugged of £50 for a Pacenti sticker! Anyone got any insider knowledge?

Still trying to find funds for some HED Belgiums but alas I doubt that will ever happen...

Mr Pacenti is an American anyway. The Pacenti CL25 rims I had (20mm internal) split within 18 months, the section walls were really thin. Light, but not durable. This was ~4 years ago though and they may (you'd hope) have changed by now, or were just a bad batch.

Helped kick-start it for MTBs with the tyres, 2.1 Neo-Motos. So many changes in bikes start with new tyres.

I read about the failures in those rims, they make a big spiel about how they've thickened the rim bed now, which is why they're pretty much the same weight as all other alloy rims of similar dimension I guess!

Reminds me to check out the new Mavics, think they're a bit narrow though...

I guess they kind of have to as most other bits can be made in a garden shed.

Good to know, in that case worth going for. The Pacenti design/shape worked well with tubed and tubeless rims. The Stans Crests I was using before that were a nightmare with tubed tyres due to the tighter bead seat design.

The main difference is the Pacenti rim joint is welded, the Kinlin is pinned - for a disc rim it makes naff-all difference. I've been running some XR-26Ts on one bike and for the money they're great - no problems setting up tubeless with a track pump.

Thanks Dovebiker, you've given me the legitimate reason I needed to buy the more expensive/tartier rim!

Will be running rim brakes so a smoother join sounds like the way to go.

Now... 2x or 3x? 😉

Wowser, your paying a lot for negligible difference.

I have Pacenti SL25s and really rate them, though not sure they're worth the premium in view of the other options available now.

DT Swiss rims worth a look too, some of them are surprisingly good value. Look pretty classy too.

Yeah, but DT don't offer much for the rim braked rider, it's the R460 or narrower, I want the widest rim I can get as it will be used for CX racing and gravel stuff with tubes and low pressures. Only thing wider than the Pacenti Forza seems to be the HED Belgium at £150 per rim...

That being said I don't mind paying a bit extra for some pimp, rest of the build is 'workmanlike'!

R460 is only 1mm narrower than the Kinlin and likely to be far better quality.
