Any Pace riders in?

Looking to swap everything from my YT Capra* onto a steel hardtail and the Pace ticks a lot of long, low and slack boxes.

* Yep, the forks would need a shorter air shaft. They’re 2017 Lyriks which I believe can be reduced to 150mm.

I’ve had Blue Pigs in the past and currently have a Cotic Bfe26. How does the Pace compare?

I can't help you but I'm looking at doing similar myself so bookmarking the thread...

The Pace is top of my list but I'm hesitating because of its length, which for me at 5'6" seems a big leap, although their sizing chart suggests it's fine.

Same here, I’m 5’ 8” which puts me on a medium.

Reach is 467 on the Pace, Blue Pig is 440, Bfe is 454.

BB drop is lower on the Pace too which is a slight concern - 63.5 v 45 v 34.

There isn't a smaller size than that, far as I know. My gut feel is I really want 440ish, but I could be wrong.

Myself I quite fancy that BB drop on a hardtail and I think Cotic have started to move to lower theirs, albeit not this much. But then I use 165 cranks.

My other concern is I don't really want/need the stiffness/feel I associate with a frame built to take "Enduro" riding and at 2.6kg I suspect these are. But then I do want aspects of the geometry that come with this.

I have a RC529 and it's been the bike I use the most (also have an Orange segment and a Vitus Esommet) I'm 5'11" and have size large frame, although it looks to have a long reach the steep seat tube seems to offset this,I have not found the low bb to be an issue even when I ran it with a "mullet" set-up

Cheers at StuE - done some reading up and the reviews / owner feedback all seems pretty positive. Damn near pulling the trigger.....

Only fly in the ointment is that I’ve been advised by Pace against using my existing Hope (non boost) Pro4 wheels with the Hope adapter (to make them fit the boost frame spacing).

Not sure why this would be the case but buying a new wheelset wasn’t included in my man maths.

I’ve had 2 RC627’s and they were great. But tey were XLs so I probably made them flex more than you chaps.

The dropouts are quite delicate if you are planning on running them single speed.

And tire clearance is not quite as advertised.

2.6 is your max with the dropouts fully forward.

I have a 627, really pleased with it.

I’m 6 foot 2 and should be on the XL according to the geo chart and the designer, whom I spoke to. However I went for the large (485mm reach) and really pleased that I did. As I already have a full suss that’s long, I wanted a hardtail that was a bit more playful. I wouldn’t say it’s playful at all, but it is still fun and I feel if you go too long you would lose some of that.

The ride Quality is brilliant, it just feels so well damped at the back and is super stable.

@TheGhost could you elaborate? Delicate in what way? I haven't seen them in the flesh, but thought they looked solid, if perhaps a bit lacking in range of adjustment. I'm after a frame I'd run singlespeed and the RC627 is pretty much top of my list.

I ran my RC627 single speed and managed to chew the dropouts up where the inner bolts sit. There is only a small ridge on the inside of the dropout to hold the square washer/nut in place and you can easily over tighten them.

I also found wheel alignment hard to set and keep set, and there isn't much adjustment.

The dropouts on the SC Chameleon were easier to use, as are the horizontal sliding dropouts on my RSD Middlechild.

The Middlechild dropouts feel much more robust.

Overall the sliding dropouts on the Pace didn't work as well as other systems I've tried. I was left wondering why they had included them rather than a fixed dropout. They did improve tire clearance, but the manual says not to run them with the wheel all the way back.

The RC627 rides great, I you are careful with your SS setup you should be fine.

hope that helps
