What’s the current STW overshoe of choice then? This is for road/gravel bike SPD shoes. I have goretex five tens for MTB.

I’ve had cheap ones before that just fall apart and wondered if there’s a better choice that will last longer?

I got some Fizik ones last winter (cheap off Ebay). They fit nicely and seem well made though I would suggest they are for cold rather than rain. I'll see if they get through another winter this year.

https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CLCAPRKRTC/carnac-parky-reflective-toe-cover are great for extra visibility and a bit of of insulation for your toes, especially when you get them for ~£5.

Whatever you choose, fit the GripGrab gaiters over them to boost their effectiveness 100%

I have had different makes both cheap and expensive and they have all been destroyed. The only pair that I have now and are still being used, they just won't die. They are planet x neoprene overshoes from about 6 years ago, not sure they make them anymore.

For me, the endura ones were the worst in terms of reliability and longevity.

Planet X neoprene ones with Velcro, zip ones always fail

I bought some northwave waterproof boots from merlin cycles last winter. Got the cold weather ones which need it to be cold or they're too warm. Miles better than overshoes

Whenever any footwear threads come up I have to ask my usual question, is there a huge foot option? Even XL overshoes just don't stretch over my size 12/13s. Every pair I have had have split or ripped the zip so what's good for canoe feet?

Any suggestions for those of us with really big ankles/calves?

Investing in a good pair of thermal winter boots is the way forward. 3 pairs of overshoes is enough to cover the cost(in the sale) and I’m into my 6th winter with my Northwaves.

I just treat overshoes as disposable and spend the minimum on them. IME they'll do a season on road shoes then can be transferred to off-road shoes where they'll get wrecked and then they go in the bin.

Endura FS260 Slick are my go-to option:
https://www.endurasport.com/fs260-pro-slick-overshoe-ii-black/12928841.html

Stretchy enough to pull on easily, waterproof, lightweight, fold up small.
I hate those heavy neoprene ones and I've found that expensive ones still end up getting trashed quickly anyway so why bother spending lots on them?!

Bit undecided here on the overshoes vs boots debate. I do get it that long term, winter boots are probably worth the investment, but I’ve already got goretex five tens for MTB’ing on flats and wasn’t really planning on forking that kind of money out when I really don’t do that much road/gravel biking when they would be needed. Equally some of these overshoes are £30-40 and may not last. I’m erring towards the cheaper end and just expect to get a winter out of them. Maybe 🤔

What size? I have some worn once SealSkinz neoprene ones for sale cheap. Size 7/8 (medium I think).

These look same as the planet X ones I've used for years

Do these work ok with SPD's? I bought a pair of Diluvio UL o/shoes as they have a velcro strap on the bottom to facilitate 2 bolt cleats. If their road shoe specific covers also work with SPD's it would offer more choice (currently they only list the Diluvio UL and Intenso UL as SPD compatible)

Just a hole on the bottom, don’t see why not? I use Speedplay so the hole should be plenty big enough for SPD…not sure if I’m missing something!

I guess if there’s a tread on the shoe they could be a struggle? From that angle I can see why they maybe offer them with straps across the bottom.

Neoprene soaks up water so I don'tike it, buy waterproof overshoes, keep the water & the wind out. I have some Madison ones that do a good job.
