[Closed] Oval chainring for higher gearing without affecting ground clearance?

My Whyte 901 is quite low and I have to ride accordingly which is a PITA sometimes unless I want to leave bits of the undercarriage behind

It's also low geared with a 30T chainring & 11-42 cassette

If I got an oval chainring, is the long axis inline with the cranks and do they all have the same ovality?

Ideally I could do with something that's effectively 34T with the ground clearance of a 30T IYKWIM

No, it's slightly offset.

No, the long axis is c30deg or something like that off the crank line. I don't think it will solve your issues.

If not on an xd driver, you could change to one so you could get the 10t on a sram cassette. More expensive mind.

You could always buck current fashion and fit a bash guard (either frame or crank mounted)

Hmm an actual bashguard

I have an ISCG guard in the shed I could use with a BB adaptor

Will a 34t round ring be 'smaller' than the 34t oval? Will it have a slightly smaller diameter?

Isn't depend on the teeth?  If the teeth fit the chain ring ... it will be the same ...

The circumference will be the same as a circular ring but obviously having a long and short axis, the oval ring will be larger along the long axis than the diameter of the circular ring and smaller along the short axis. Won't it?

A 34t oval ring will have a smaller diameter on the minor axis and a larger diameter on the major axis...the circumference is the same so what you lose in the shorter bit you gain in the longer bit.

Just fit a bash guard. I've got a black spire one, not sure why you wouldn't have some sort of chainring protection for the occasional bash on big rocks on technical climbs.

He wants more clearance so an oval will fail as it has a wider diameter at the furthest ends, circular should be slightly smaller so would assist in clearance (unless he can place the ring and his cranks consistently where the shorter 'flat' of the oval ring will be).

Can you go 10-42? Will up the gearing at the top end for the same 30t

Just to add the maths

30-10 is the same as 33-11
