Geared, not tried, but singlespeed I'm a convert of some 2-3 years.

Mine feels good on my 1x10 with expander setup. Gone for a 34T over a 32T and don't feel it's any harder to push the same sprocket than it was with a 32T round ring.
Might be snake oil mind! 😉
