Riding last Sunday my bike made an appalling noise. On dismantling Monday night I found the rear hope hub bearings had self distructed. Just pleased it wasn't the c456 frame to be honest that my mates who had heard the noise predicted.

So parts ordered and tried this lunchtime to refit. No joy with 2x small bearings which fit in one end of the free hub body. Turns out that the outer races of the old bearings are there and with no way of getting at them from below in order to persuade them out due to step on inside of the free hub I am struggling.

Any thoughts so I don't mash the alu free hub ?

Have you got the freehub removed from the axle and hub body? if so, the spacer between the inboard and outboard bearings in the freehub can be pushed over to the side, and then you can tap the bearings out from the opposite side. If the inner race of the bearings has come out I guess you might struggle to tap against just the outer race, as it'll be behind the step. Might need a puller for that.

If the freehub is stuck on the axle, you can use a 2p coin and the cassette lock ring to force the freehub off the axle (I think - a while since I did it).

Thanks, not in the NE though.

Is exactly the problem. I'll check out other thread tonight and see if any solutions as I don't have a puller.

Don't forget the circlip holding the inboard bearing in...

(I think, unless they changed the design since I last had to do this job...)

I think I had this same problem a few weeks ago, admittedly on a hope pro 2 evo though. Was it the freehub bearing nearest to the pawls?

If so I ended up getting a flat bladed screwdriver, wedging it under the race and tapping down on the the handle of the screwdriver. I could only get it out so far doing this but by then it was far enough out to grab with some needle nosed pliers.

Hope (Ha) this helps!

if the race in complete sorce a washer the same size at the inner of the bearing race place on to of race and hit in the middle the spacer will dome in the middle and pop into the bearing race flip over and hit from behind it should pop out with race attatched
