Hi

I've got a Hope Pro 2 Evo rear hub that developed a load of play mid-ride. Nursed it home and disassembled. Drove the non-drive-side bearing out with a single hammer strike on the axle. Then put the axle back through the drive-side bearing and it disintegrated on the first strike leaving some of the outer race stuck in the hub body. Ar$e. Looking through from the non-drive-side there doesn't appear to be anything to go at to remove it. Anyone got any ideas please?

Cheers

Matt

Are you sure you cannot get anythin on the back of it?

If not the proper answer is a blind bearing puller. sometimes you can bodge something up with a rawlbolt

A trick that might work is to heat the hub up - tie a rag around it and pour boiling water over it then hit the wheel down onto a hard surface on the drive side - momentum might just start the bearing moving

The rawlbolt trick is worth a try.
Welding a bolt to the remains of the bearing never fails.
the heat of the weld will loosen it and the bolt gives you something to pull on.

this has happened to me a few times I used a dremel with a tungsten carbide cutter attachment

cut 3/4's the way into the race every 1/3's around the circumference and used a small chisel to break the race out.

A engineering shop should have a blind bearing puller and with one its a 2 minute job - I would do that before risking damage to the hub

I had the same problem with pro 2, was a front hub tho. Heated it up in oven then drifted out the remains with a park metal tyre lever, the curved tip just caught enough of the race.

Cheers for the responses chaps. Had another go at it and found the smallest of lips to work on. Once I'd got it out it turns out the hub shell has cracked round the bearing seat which explains why the bearing failed as it did. Arse.
