And the fallout from last weeks crash continues: I went to put on my Spesh shoes this morning, only to find that the crash has broken the ratchet strap (Spesh Elite), which means I need new shoes.

I have always loved Spesh shoes, I was just wondering if there is anything else worth considering, ideally lower than the £90 it is to replace like with like.

Cheers.

If you're after proper road shoes then I will recommend Bonts without hesitation - I got a set a year or so back and they're amazing - miles stiffer than any top of the range shoe from any other brand but being heat mouldable, comfortable with it.

And you can get the cheapest ones for less than £100 - the main real world difference being that they're a bit heavier than the pro ones.

I have the Bont A-three FWIW

I've got a set of Bontrager Race RL shoes which are more or less in the price range depending on sales etc that I really rate. My "good" shoes are Giro Factor which are out of the range you said (although I got them for 100 quid) but the Trans is a pretty similar fit.

Can you not just get a replacement strap? Ive already replaced the actual ratchet on my BG Pro MTB shoes (and the other needs doing now too)

Hmmmm good call there. I had a quick look (and I mean a very quick look) this morning and just assumed the strap was non-replaceable.

Check with Lancashire Sports Repairs, they might not be able to help but I bet they know a man who can.

Go to a specialized store (some at Evans) and they'll sort you out with spares

Tsk. Amateurs 🙄

A broken strap is all the excuse you need for new shoes 😉

From memory some bits aren't replaceable as they are stitched or bonded on but lots of things can be. Worth an ask and saves you ~£100 for other stuff. The ratchet is quite vulnerable to wear so generally is available a spare.

What size shoe are you? I've got some Bont Vaypors for sale if you're interested.

If they're 48s, I'd be interested david!

Sorry, they ain't! Size 46, bought em off ebay but they're too small. Sizing is a bit odd, think I need a 46.5 or a 47, yet every other shoe I'm a 46 or smaller.

Interesting - I'm pretty consistently 48 in cycling shoes and that's what my Bonts are and they're spot on.

Bizarre. I measured my feet, they were about 2mm shorter than a size 45, so I thought 46 would give me plenty of room. How wrong I was!

Wish they did fitr though, feel like they'd be amazing. Dead light and "small" compared to my bulky Sidis

It would appear that both the ratchet and the strap are available as spares for a total of £15.

Right so that's £15 wasted so really your new shoes would only cost £75 and that's a bargin! 😀

Hahaha normally I would like your thinking but I need new mtb shoes at the moment as well and £75 would pay for some Five Ten Karvers

Dare I even say it, but check out Evans website, I recently bought "Suplest" Mtb race shoes on a whim, and I love em, perfect for CX which it what they were bought for. There were road shoes also massively discounted.
