Been looking to buy one of these. Anyone have one? Are they too big for a day out or should I be looking at a Zealot 16?

I have one, I really like it.

I take tools and spares most days but it can include food plus camera.. sometimes 2. Other days I go out and there is hardly anything in it apart from the 3L of water.

The frame system it has to keep it off your back really does work and I never get a sweaty back. The magnetic catch for the water tube is great for keeping it from bouncing around. It has always been comfortable to wear. There are loads of little pockets on it which mean when you need to you can get loads in, but when emptyish doesn't feel like a huge sack on your back.

30l pack is pretty big. Does it have compression straps for when it's not quite full?
I've got a Vaude Splash Air 20+5 and even when it's not expanded to 25l, it's enough space for a days worth of kit...

looks a lot like a hiking version of the escapist. I have an esacapist 30 which is good as an all use bag for carrying spare clothes and other 'family' stuff. Compresses down well, but perhaps somewhat oversized for ordinary daily riding use.

Yeah it has the straps to pull it tight around whatever is in it.
