I will shortly be going abroad to Greece. Historically I always used viewranger to follow routes etc on whatever appeared to be the best map for that area downloaded to my phone to avoid data charges.
Am I now right in think that OS Maps doesn’t let you use any European maps? Certainly it only comes up with uk places when I do a search .
What free alternatives are there ? Ta
Looks like I can get away with using kamoot as a one off 🙁
Gaia GPS?
OSMAnd+ is a decent freebie app.
If you're a strava subscriber worth taking a look at FatMap
Used Outdooractive app in Slovenia for some walking & gravel rides. Seemed to work well.
Back country navigator on Android is great. You can download maps for offline use
I like komoot, I suppose it depends on how keen the locals are on it for sniffing out local rides.
Fatmap is interesting thou as (in Spain)it does let you switch to the ‘proper’ Spanish os equiv local maps.
The Ordnance Survey is a UK mapping agency, so yeah their maps are UK only. For OpenStreetMap mapping I use Go Map! on my iPhone.
I think the Spanish equivalent of the Ord Surv. use a version of UTM so displaying other maps won't be too messy, or have too much error. National Grid that the OS use is very setup for the UK, and displaying maps from another country is going to have a degree of distortion, and by the time you get to Greece quite a bit.
