Which does everyone think my mate should go for?
he seems to think orange is the best overall...?
Question is what type of riding, and where?
I know people that love their P7's.
I have an Altitude and love it, and know others that do too...
The Altitude is more overtly XC in its approach, the P7 being a touch more laid back and suiting a longer travel fork better. P7 is also a lb or so heavier just in the frame.
P7 is more versatile in terms of if you want to run it singlespeed or with a hub gear (rather than with conventional gears) as it has sliding dropouts which the Altitude does not, but if he has no intention of running SS or with a hub gear then it's not a consideration.
If running conventional gears, I'd say the choice goes something like this... If he's going to be riding more wheels on the ground XC then get an Altitude, if he's after a bike that's a bit more relaxed and takes a 140mm travel fork with ease then get the P7.
hmm yeah i'd say more wheels on the ground and gears,
i was thinking the Altitude was up to a bit though looking at it now, quite like these Genesis bikes looking at em.
i got the SS io,love it,does the job sound for me,although i dont think it will hack too much hammer off me.
Won't go wrong with either, I agree with maverick, wheels on ground = Altitude, bit more gnar = P7
I've also got an iO
I treated myself to an Alptitude on Xmas eve.....and am enjoying a steel hardtail again-great bikes, Genesis seem to have done a good job with these!
plus my LBS are doing deals on Genesis bikes.....too good an offer to not treat me'sen to a well earned Christmas prezzie!
I bought a new bike last year and it came down to the P7 or the Altitude.
I managed to borrow a P7 for the weekend off a work colleague. This gave me a chance to ride it on my local trails where I do 90% of my riding. My conclusion as a result was that it wasn't quite right for me. I found it heavy on the long grinding pennine climbs. My colleague regularly thrashes it around Dalby and loves it and this is where I think the P7 shines.
For myself however long XC rides with long climbs I preferred the Altitude 30. It was lighter with a 140mm bolt through fork. So I bought that instead. Since then I've ridden it at Whinlatter and Grizedale and found it to be a joy to ride.
The spec on the Altitude was superior to the P7 and it also helped that a local bike shop had £400 off!
