Whilst descending this bike sounds like throwing a drum kit down a flight of stairs, how can I Matthew internal cables quieter.
Make not Matthew
Expanding foam
Fit a rear Hope hub? 😉
Or try that mini foam insulation designed for just this thing.
Yup. Mastic tape or velcro on the outside, expanding foam on the inside. Basically quieten the clonks, and also reduce the reverbrations (because the swingarm is, more or less, a cowbell) Do all this to an Orange and it'll become basically just noisy, rather than sounding like it's full of spoons.
It does make changing the internal cables an unbelievable **** of a job though. A lot of people switch to external at the same time for much the same reasons.
I think someone on here once came up with 'sounds like a skeleton masturbating in a biscuit tin'
Orange bikes and “filing cabinet syndrome”
I'd like to own an Orange one day.
Why all the dislike in threads like this?
Don’t worry about it being noisy be more worried about the tyre hitting the seat tube at full compression.
There's no dislike. Just a happy digging at the perennial racket they make. I had a 2006 '5'. Loved it, great bike. But it was proper noisy in the steel band/ masturbating skeleton vein. But that only added to the ride for me. Y'know, a bit more audible drama to go with the descent. They are just a bit more spinal tap than other bikes and that's no bad thing. 🙂
If I knew how I'd managed to get my stage 6 so quiet I'd tell you.
Wrapped the swingarm in self amalgamating tape, but it doesnt seem thick enough to have a massive effect.
Maybe just luck.

Is that not a design feature? On the 224 Evo a lot of people swore by it, because otherwise it'd crack the front shock mounts if you bottomed it out too often.

Orange's design was incredible loud going down hill long before the cables were routed internally
Northwind, it’s like a special brake function at absolutely the moment you don’t need it. Oranges response to my mate was ‘fill your shock with tokens’ absolutely shocking. As to my last Orange Five, I would’ve been happy with it being noisy if they had put the seat tube on square.
Weirdly my old Alpine Five and Stage 5 are both eerily quiet - unless I just can't hear them over the clacking of the Hope hub.
While fitting the internal routing was a royal PITA, it does seem to work well to minimise rattling.
My Transition needed more remedial work to quieten it down.
You're using the Orange-supplied frame plugs for cables OP? Worth dropping Orange a line for tips maybe?

Wrapping the cables in velcro or foam tape is another option.
Unless the frame has proper internal guiding/TITS, internal routing is shit, the cable will rattle and rub. Specialized have got it right, its a doddle to route hoses.
not sure whether mine is quiet or ive just zoned it out...? think its the latter actually, but im pretty sure its not that bad... i remember being quite surprised by the rattle at first, got used to it tho, doesnt bother me any more, having too much fun!!
My Alpine rode well, but after 4 warranty replacements within 12 months (head tube failure, swing arm cracking twice and a weld splitting) I came to the conclusion that they are so badly made that they arent worth the hassle.
The frame alignement, welds and finish were awful. I've since riden Specialized Enduros, Nicolais and a Trek Slash far harder than I rode the Alpine without issue. And it was noisey.
"Orange Stage 5 noisey!"
In other news, water is wet.
Sounds like a bike that needs wireless shifting and brakes, that would sort it out.
My Orange 5 was the same. I solved the problem by selling it.
