After three punctures over two inner tubes, on last night's ride home, it's time to set the front wheel up tubeless again. It's for a 700c x 40mm gravel tyre, if that make a difference, plus the manual for my DT Swiss wheels says not to use corrosive sealants, or a I'll die.
I've been recommended Orange Seal, but do I want the normal stuff, or the Endurance...?
Good stuff, although it's expensive. I found it dried quicker than Stan's too.
The corrosive part is IIRC Ammonia which is used in some latex solutions, but shouldn't be a problem with tubeless gunk.
I use Stans race, had to take the tyre off after 6 months after it developed a blister but the sealent still looked like new. Seems to work in everything from my road bike to the fat bike and so far longevity seems good.
I’ve used regular and endurance stuff and not really noticed any difference. Guess the biggest compliment I can give is that it just works, and only needs the occasional top-up.
I find Orange Seal utterly useless, it dries up in a week, leaving your typre coated in gunk.
Stan's (or the many rebranded made-by-Stan's copies liek Doc Blue or Giant sealant) are far, far better
I’ve used Orange Endurance for ages,in both road bikes and mountain bikes. It seals well and stays wet for ages,I generally only need to top up every 4-6 months depending on temperature.
Used Endurance for three years, no dramas. (With Maxxis tyres). Had Spesh tyres and Stan's and 3 punctures in 2 weeks. Will be switching back to Endurance as never noticed a puncture in 3 years.
Both orange flavours work when they are fresh, not so much when they aren't.
I recently set up a new set of wheels tubeless and my slightly old bottle of endurance didn't work, so had to throw away a fair bit. Don't be tempted to buy more than you need for a few months.
Also, IME, it doesn't really like higher pressures so you might need an anchovy for smaller holes on a gravel bike (for a hole that might seal at MTB pressures).
I've had orange seal endurance in a tyre for a year and it still sealed a puncture without any issues.
Gets my vote.
I have Orange Seal after using Stans for years. Orange is so good it’s sealed my valves....ho hum.
I've gradually switched all my bikes to Orange Endurance. I'm finding it stays wet much longer than Stans, and you don't get the alien formations...all the bits stay suspended.
I was tempted to try the non endurance version but I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if the standard stuff is the reason people are saying it dries up...
Not noticed any increase in punctures, the only issue I've had was a massive nail that went through a 40c tyre and back out the sidewall! I don't think I tubed it, after a couple of anchovies and allowing the sealant to pool over the damage we got it sealed, and I did another 90 miles on it that day.
Orange works better than Stans in the cold - OKO works even better than Orange. Though when I say cold, I'm talking negative 15...... I changed to OKO for this winter and apart from a couple of burps when they tyre is down at 3 psi, its been a winner. Can't advise for summer running yet, but OKO will be in my summer setups as I change to slicker tyres as the world dries out in the springtime.
Anyone tried the new muc off sealant?
Anyone tried the Tyre yogurt too?
I had to buy some muc off stuff at whinlatter at the weekend following an 'incident.' Seemed to seal up quick - has a lot thicker consistency it seems than stans or orange. Can't comment on long term as changed the tyre when I got home.
