My Five is years old - 2004 model so I don't think it's worth spending a whole lot of cash on it but I'm wondering in what way a coil shock could change the ride.
A few on here seem to be raving about CCDB's but that's way more than I'm willing to spend and I can get a VanR for under £200.
Anyone run a Five on a Fox Van R and have any insight into how it compares with air? Is the weight difference so bad?
I run a heckler on a van R and unles syou pedal liek a **** its great 🙂
I got mine from American Ebay for £92 delivered brand new
not an orange 5 but enduro
don't realy notice the weight difference but feels so much smoother on the DH sections
I've got a 2005 and replacing the shite swinger with an old vanilla RC for £60 off eBay. Transformed the bike...
get than van RC, its nice to be able to turn the LSC all the way up if you do long climbs.
Put an Rp23 on it
But all depends on if your just doing descents and using an up lift go for the Van RC.
Hi Brooes - there's always a lot of debate around coil versus air, but I think it's less relevant than whether you have one unit set up well versus one set up badly.
The change is much greater to go from a stock unit to one that has been tuned and set up for you, than it is to just change from an air spring to a coil spring.
For example, a poorly set up coil is going to feel worse than a well set up air spring; that is, it's not going to give you less control on the bike, less grip etc.
