Hi I'm selling and upgrading my bike wheels. First ever time upgrading wheels so I am novice.

I was just wondering what is it it I need to know when buying my wheels for My 2016 orange five pro mk2? The stock wheels on my bike are Alex MD 23, s

Can you tell me the hub sizes, boosted or not and whatever else is important to note that would effect compatibility with my bike. Just so I get the right wheels built and can write a listing for the ones I'm selling.

Thanks

I'm guessing it's a 650b.

Are you running tubeless already?

What's your budget?

My first suggestion would be to take them off and weigh them without tyres, rotar, cassette. No point upgrading if you buy something at a similar weight unless it's stronger/wider

What kind of riding do you do?

How much do you weigh?

Do you have a list of wheels you like?

The 2016 frame is 142 x 12 rear (so none boost) - I have one.

Front depends on your forks.

I have a build ready to be started, im actually not bothered about weight but I'd be surprised if my new wheels are heavier than the ones I'm running. My wheels are currently set to tubeless, I ride heavy trails mainly I don't however do downhill on this bike. I am heavy 16 and a half stone, I am going for stan's flow mk3 as Its a company I've been buying from years and I trust them. I am getting them laced to hope pro 4s built by pj cycles.

The list I have after a lot of research was stan's flows and ex451s, as they have great reviews for strength. I was originally going to go with a DH build but I think it's a overkill since I keep my five away from the DH stuff, I will buy a DH bike for that hopefully next year.

The stock rims have took the abuse I gived them and they are bad quality so should be fine with the stan's.

No sorry, built mine up from the frame, not a clue on the forks. The axle will be 15mm which is standard for front forks, the hub width will be either 100mm or 110mm (boost). Just take it off and measure.

Why bother with people on here second guessing ? The manufacturer has archives of their bikes !?!

And for my money, your 16 stone+ ?, I'd go for DT Swiss rims because I'd want them strong and tough.

They 15mm front, non boost. 142*12 rear, non-boost.

Forget those who say it's not worth upgrading unless they're lighter new wheels. Width, stiffness, bearing life etc are the reason to upgrade. Especially if you're 16st. To be fair those Alex rims are probably pretty stiff, but at 23mm internal width, you'll be pushing the limits of bigger tyres if you corner hard.

Good call - I'm not sure there is a 451, do you mean ex471's ?

If you're keen on wider tyres maybe consider the ex511's as well.

Yeah sorry the ex471s I got a lot of recommendations on it and it was down to the stan's flow mk3s and these two. But I've compared them and these are supposed to be a quite a bit stronger still.
