Thinking of maybe getting one of these - any experience out there?

Thinking of it for two-three hour rides - suitable??

£1500 for a badly specced hardtail. And the geometry isnt up my street.

You could get a Canyon with an awesome selection of bits for £1500

Or you could custom build something like a dialled/cotic/on one

£1500 goes a long way if you're buying a hardtail. Further than basic Race face ride and SLX components anyway.

Orange make good full suspension bikes, or at least full suspension bikes that appeal to alot of people. There arent many other manufacturers that build single pivot bikes like that. So they are popular.

But if you're in the market for another style of bike that isnt a single pivot full sus, then orange would be the last place I'd look.

Have a look on Rosebikes.co.uk - mind blowing value for money by comparison

Ive got one, 2010 version paid around 1000 for it new, as i was aware the next year model was going to have a 300-400 price leap, mine I think was good value, but the same bike for 1400 - not sure!

mine has held up to the last two years well- paint has damage - but rocks will do that, handling - fine by my standards- sort of encourages steep down stuff, uphill fine, but you do have to load the front a bit. mine has the 27mm seat tube- so dropper post is limited, newer model has a bigger tube so you have more choice

overall like the bike, would prolly get either the same again or maybe a 456 or a PA or a soul- but deffo the same style.

enjoy!

Hi there,

I have a 2011 crush and love it! Did 5 hours round w2 on it in the rain with no problems. Had it 18 months and its only weak point is me! I have put carbon bars on, new lock on grips, had a set of Dmr v8s on but have started using spd so have xt trail pedals on there now. Added a crud catcher ( bolted on) and a neo guard and it can do anything I can throw at it. From thick mud to Rocky descents its good all round! Goes up good aswell.

Older pic before neo guard and carbon bars ( yes the lawn and fence are a mess)

I had a 2010 version and it was the most fun hardtail I've ever had. I'm not convinced its worth £1500 - the frame is only £360, so I think they must now be charging full retail for all the components. Loved the way it rode though.

A mate of mine had one of the older ones which due to a financial disaster was his only bike, a few weeks of commuting on it soon had it sold! To be fair he wasn't very thrilled with it off road either. He said it was fine going down but not for anything else.

Selling a 21 inch 2010 Crush frame in green if you're interested? I've just stripped it down as I'm building up a Blue Pig at the mo. It's very clean. Only been used as an occasional winter bike as I have a full sus for general day to day use.

I have the 2008 version and, apart from the joke Raceface BB, is OK but it's my first hardtail, as opposed to full rigid, so I don't have any long term comparisons. I wouldn't have paid the £1,000 list price but it was on discount at the end of the year. Definitely would not consider it (or any hardtail I might be thinking of buying) worth £1,500. It did come with less than the recommended amount of oil in the Fox fork but I can't imagine any bike manufacturer checks the oil level in forks supplied to him.

I've ridden it for longer than 3 hour rides often enough without it turning in to a pumpkin.

The original tyres were a bit draggy (though grippy) and the replacement Continental Verticals roll better (they're a bit narrower) and seem to grip OK but I'll know better after the winter.
