The orange clockwork 29er look like it should be a good bike??
Anyone got one?
Do you like it?
Any photos?
I've got one myself, bought it as a frame only option in Sterling Silver, I love it, great for munching the miles. I certainly wouldn't buy an orange as a full build again, I feel as though I've done better by buying parts myself..
Best picture I can find of it.
Somebody (in another thread today) mentioned they were making some changes to the frame; no idea what though?
I've got one, my first 29er
Yes I like it

Trying it out with some rigid carbon forks at the mo, still feels plush, 29 do seem to roll over things easier and I dont really notice it being heavy on climbs or ponderous to maneuver . Having said that I did go from a 5 with 160 coil lyriks and CCDB to the clockwork, but I'm loving being back on a hardtail.
Can't see me going back to 29" for a long time
Very tempted after seeing one in LBS yesterday but interested to hear what the revisions are on the new version...and frame weight.
3.4 lbs for 17 inch version
Love mine. Bought the cheapest version as it was my first 29er plus I had a load of better stuff lying around anyway. Just need a better fork now.
Flies up and down and just Imo rides great, glad I went with it.
Would be curious to know what's been changed. It already takes a tapered fork and seat tube is big enough for a dropper. Maybe a bolt up rear and iscg tabs.

Changed the tyres now as wasn't keen on the conti's.
What sort of weight are your builds coming in at ?
Love mine, clockwork s with the fox forks. My first bike purchase in 10 years and I'm loving riding again. Would upload a pic but dont know how to off my phone!
The revisions are beefing up the back end, the drive side breaks, couple of weeks before the new ones are available
3.4 lbs for 17 inch version
Thanks. Do you know if that is quoted or an actual weighed weight? Sounds good though...wanted sub 4lb so be pleased with that weight accept...

...maybe too light leading to some breakages 😕
Any other revisions you know of?
Where did you hear about availability in a couple of weeks? Thinking about ordering on Monday so interested if the new frame is only 2 weeks away.
I heard July btw
That's all I got told, Vaughan at orange told me 2 weeks
Great bike I love mine either geared or single speed with fox 100mm forks its a joy to ride
What sort of weight are your builds coming in at ?
Mine sits at 28lb according to the bathroom scales, maybe not the most accurate but it gives that weight repeatadly.
The current fork is heavy though and the wheels could probably lose some.
26lb would be doable with just them changes I reckon.
Yeah just wondered about weight as i have just built my ragley bigwig 29er and that comes in bang on 29lbs so for a steel frame and 140mm maitou towers thats not too bad i suppose
I heard there could be some 650b's coming out of orange on this 2 week timescale now. Too many choices, regardless I think the 29er suits me best so ill be putting an order in shortly.
That green one looks the nuts!
Bought a frame and built one up a couple of months ago. Absolutely love it! It's fast, light, superb trail geometry, (im 6'4" and it's most compfortable bike I've owned). Also very capable on all but the roughest of trails. My full suss hasnt got a look in since I bought it!
Ive not ridden a hard tail for many years and was a bit worried about it but it copes with the bumps so well its not been an issue at all. Part of the fun is you have to ride it rather than just sit there while the suss soaks up every little bump.

Hey Warns74, what size is your frame??
All sounds positive!
Anyone else bought a frame only??
Hey dnc29
It's an XL frame. One advantage of 29er wheels is they make 5 bar gate frame sizes look "normal"!

What sort of budget are you looking at in term of built vs self-build?
Love mine (Clockwork S).
I'm 6' 4" and ride a L. Modded with new wheels (Hope + Mavic), Shimano SPD's and an extra long seat post (Thompson) so far.
Had to change the BB fairly quickly.
I bought it off ebay for £760 (hardly ridden) so happy with the spec for the price.
Rides great. Climbs nicely. Not too heavy on the front end for me. Ate Dalby for breakfast.
I swap out the wheels for my commute (Original wheels and 700c tyres). So satisfying to whiz along at 20 mph fairly easily.
Didn't realise that there were problems with the frame, but I'm sure Orange will sort any (non-idiot) failures.
Hi
I have most parts required for the build. I have 29er rebas
I will only need a new 30.9 seat post, prob go for a Thomson again.
And wheels, think I will get Hope on Stans Crest
Not sure what stem length to go for? Was thinking 70/80mm
TallPaul
do you have any photos????
Im using a 60mm (the one in the photo) and it feels spot on. Think you can away with shorter stems with the bigger wheels.
Would also recommend a 120mm fork (not sure what your rebas are), seems to work well with the rest of the bike. Oddly the base clockwork comes with 100mm then from the "s" and "pro" its 120mm.
my Rebas are set to 100mm from the factory.
I am sure they can be adjusted to 120mm buy putting a spacer in, or taking it out! Can't remember which?
60mm is really short!!
Not at the mo, but I'll try to remember later. Memory like a sieve.
It's in standard White with (temporary) mud splats
It's in commute mode at the mo, with mudguards and Freeload rack, so not as handsome as the examples above.
Anyone know if you can get the frame only in colours other than the white and orange? There seems to be the option with the Pro model but not the others?..............
I also bought the frame only, haven’t had much chance to ride it but it, it’s rides really well. The only other 29er I have spent much time on is the top of the range whyte carbon hardtail, I would say it rides as well as that. Does exhibit any of the negative 29er effects, nice and snappy (maybe not the best term to use in light of the comments above!).
Set mine up a bit more xc than trail with 100 reba but would quite like to try a 120mm fork now, although don’t see that happening any time soon, sadly (and would want to run a negitive rise stem if I ran a longer fork). Not that it rides badly at all with the 100mm fork.
I think the white and orange frames came pre-painted from Taiwan, the Pro frames came in raw to be powdercoated and built up in Halifax, I'm sure you could buy a frame only with your choice of colour. Neon Green looks ace!!
Interesting about the frame changes.....
Ordered a medium pro a couple of weeks ago having tested a meduim S. I was called by the bike shop and advised that Orange would have no frames until the middle of June. The Pro is shipped in as a frame and assembled in the UK whereas the Clockwork and the S are shipped in as complete bikes which is why you can change pretty much anything on the pro when you order. At least that is how it was explained to me.
Wonder what I will end up with given some of the coments.
I am terrible with waiting and my current bike really is on its last [s]legs wheels.
Can't wait!
spoke to Orange today, they said the new frames will have a brace between the seat and chain stays on the brake side. Thats the only change. I asked if they had had any problems and was told no, but they would say that I guess.

Hi,
Anyone know the sizes of the clockwork? I'm 6'1" and not sure about which size is likely to be best (without trying).
Also, am I right in thinking that the Clockwork S runs a 2x10?
Thanks
Dharmabum,
I'm 6'4" 36" leg and ride a large with a longer seat post fitted. Depending on leg length, I'd say that a large should be ok for you too.
Fulford Cycles are having a demo day on 2nd June at Dalby. May be worth giving them a ring to see what is available.
My S runs 3x10 as standard.
Thanks for this. Is the large the 19" do you happen to know?
OK. Just checked the Orange website. It is.
Thanks.
What's the Rockshox Recon Silver fork like on the S?
I've just ordered a XL from Tredz, should be arriving tomorrow, wonder if it'll be a current of a new version - would be keen to pictures of the frame mods when they come out. guess it's no stress if it's the current model, if i break it in the first year then they know there's a design issue and should sort it... - has anyone played around with tires? Considering putting Hans Dampf pace and trail star rubbers on..
Any new style frames coming through? I just placed an order for an S in large with the fox fork upgrade. Can't wait to get out on the trails.
Hi guys,
Thinking of getting an orange clockwork, but will have to be by mail order as none of the local LBS stock them, so need your help.
First question is about how this bike handles. I know it has great reviews, but I'll mostly be using this for easy trails, ups and downs and also for commuting so does it do these well or is it more for technical trails? Or does that depend on the forks that are fitted?
Talking of which does anyone know how much the geometry changes between the 100mm forks of the basic and the 120mm of the s? Does it change the handling significantly?
And finally I'm 6'1" 34" inside leg and weigh approx 100 kg so can't decide if I'm best with the 19" or the 21"? I don't like stretching out too much on the bike but I want enough room in the cockpit to shift my weight around if I need to. So should I go with the smaller frame or is the bigger bike more planted for a bigger guy?
Thanks in advance for your help
Bike handles great imo, as good as my old bfe again imo of course!
Can't comment on fork differences as still running 100mm until finances allow.
Use it for everything, commute included, handles it all fine.
For reference I'm 6'2" and 34" inside leg and ride a 19" with a 70mm stem, perfectly comfortable for me.
cheers RDL, when you say its perfectly comfortable for you do you feel its a compromise or a good fit? Did you try the 21" and was it too big?
ok, I bit the bullet and ordered a clockwork s in a large frame - going by what everyone is saying I reckon its going to be a good fit.
I'll do a review after it arrives next week and I've had a chance to throw it about a bit.
Live in n.ireland no orange dealer any idea of size required 5'8" 29/30 inside leg
Thanks
Any feedback on the standard groupset on the base model? I think i will be changing at least the crank when mine arrives in October. May even rob the slx off my Five for the winter until funds allow for a new one.
No. An Orange Clockwork made of aluminium is sacrilege, nevermind the 29er bit

True. The limited edition in 2007 was fair enough as it was still steel but updated to more modern geometry and disc brake compatible. Pity the paint quality is terrible and chips easily. However, churning out a mediocre aluminium 29er and applying the Clockwork name to make it sell is just wrong.
