I'm in the process of sorting my brake and gear hoses on an 08 patriotand the internal hose route looks to be a PITA, It does look good and I'm willing to put the effort in, but not if it makes the bike noisier. Your experiences please?

My appalling riding style makes my bike noisier than any part or routing ever will.

I've an 06 Patriot, and don't notice any noise from the internal cable routing.

The other night i put new outers on my Five, i noticed that that when i moved the cable it made a din then it tapped the inside of he swing arm, it did make me wonderd if this causes some of the elusive "Skelton shagin a fileing cabinet" sound you hear of.

I'm wondering if it's worth it? My alpine 160 was a reasonably quiet bike, I don't want this one to sound like a filing cabinet.

Mine is actualy Quitet, but if i had some guides on the top of the swingarm like on my 2012 Patriot i would probably use them.

Loose quick releases (remember them) tend to be the biggest source of noise on a 5 swing-arm. Don't make the cable too long and there shouldn't any slap to hear.

Can't say I've noticed any noise from the cable on either of the 5's I've had.

08 patriot here and with the cables routed internally, I can't say I notice any noise at all from them.

Routing them through the swing arm isn't that big a deal, work from the back of the swing arm and use a spoke to fish the outer through the hole at the front with the grommet removed.

Hard to imagine you could hear the cables over all the other noise your average Patriot makes tbh. Frame is full of spoons.

I honestly don't know where all this noise rubbish comes from, ok you hear any stone strikes on the down tube a bit more than some but I can't say I notice on the trail

Ok thanks all, I will go with the internal routing then. Oh anybody know where to get a spare gromet from?

Give orange a call or have a look in halfords, I noticed they had small packs of grommets the other day and they looked about the right size

Various gromet packs are available direct from Orange.

Thanks, but I will take the Halfords route, £6.49 posted for the one gromet I need is a bit steep!

Chain slap on swingarm seems to be bigger issue of noise I think. Five without clutch mech, noisy. Gyro with clutch mech, much quieter. Noticed this when I forgot to put the clutch on…

Obviously that doesn't affect chain deviced bikes…

Shouldn't be too bad, 1x9 with super short saint mech, DH cassette and e13 lg1+ and lots of sticky backed velcro.

I dislike Internal routing. There is more potential grief involved and I really cannot see the benefit unless you are looking for that nth nth nth degree of wind resistance etc. Repeat after me...it's going to rattle, it's going to get stuck and you cannot see what is happening when things go wrong.
