You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hey guys,
I'm seriously contemplating getting an orange alpine 6, 2017 upwards. I could only buy it second hand, as I'm not made of money. The geo on them is really good, look really good and good stuff on them. That's not the question though. The question I'm concerned about is warranty and frame damage. As with most bikes, but not all bikes, such as specialized and geometron. I've read on here about people cracking the swingarm like 3 times in a year, and other places on the frame. As I would only buy it second hand, the warranty wouldn't cover me, unfortunately. Just wondering what happened to anyone who bought an alpine 6 second hand and cracked, what did you do? It would really help if I could know, and also how good is orange customer service? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've gambled on two secondhand Orange frames of that era and both have been fine, touch wood.
One had a warranty replacement swingarm when I bought it in 2019 - and they had revised the design. The anecdotal reports of cracked swingarms did stop around two years ago, so that fits.
If you could check the date of manufacture, that might be a reassurance?
Signup to Orange Riders on FB. Lots of experience with cracked frames and warranty repairs on there. Warranties are notoriously non-transferable ago though.
Email Orange and ask them what it would cost to buy a new one and factor that into your decision.
