Why are you removing your CCDB coil? The air version isn't very light for an air shock.

boxxer7 - to heavy duty for the type of riding i'll be doing on the alpine as i've got a dh bike also. i'm going with the monarch anyway

I've gone from a ccdb coil to a monarch plus on my Covert and its almost identical on my usual rides, the ccdb was overkill for me and far too heavy.

Not on an Orange Alpine - but I have just put a Monarch Plus on my NP Mega. Had a couple of different shocks previous to that.

Fox DHX 5 coil - good for descending, not so good for climbing (to be expected really) + heavy.

Original Monarch RT3 - good for climbing + general XC riding - but just did not cut it for hammering down rocky descents.

Monarch Plus is the perfect blend of both the above - it's light and really copes well all round - esp downhill with a very similar feel to the coil.

Be interesting to see how you think it compares to the ccdb coil. Have ccdb on my dh bike but glad I went with the Plus on the mega as wanted to try and keep things as light as possible but still be able to hoon it up on the big stuff when required.

You've had five top end shocks..do you actually know what you're looking for? If none them cut the mustard for you, I'd consider a hard tail as the suspension you're looking for probably hasn't been invented yet!

Mojo - did you read the OP's postings? 😉
Shield wanted something less heavy duty and lighter than the CCDB coil. There's nothing wrong with trying different shocks if you can or want along with having them tuned for your riding style/needs. I've used all the shocks Shield has listed over the years (on different bikes) and as you would expect they all have different characteristics and plus/minus points.

Edited- just seen Shield's reply above - ha - think you are as bad as me for changing bikes 😉

wee update on the monarch plus shock , what a difference the 3 dial switch makes ! excellent for climbs and smooth as ccdb if not even smoother !

I also love the compression switch on my monarch+ I leave it in the middle for most riding and in the appropriate setting for up and down if I need to. That was the reason I chose it over a coil. Such a good shock, best I have tried for mixed riding.

Hi,
I'd like to replace the standard RP23 on my Orange Alpine with a RS Monarch plus. Can Anybody tell me what tune I need? Rider weight is 75kg.
Thanks a lot!
