In the contestant scanning of eBay etc I've noticed that Orange bikes seem to be absolute bargains. While the usual brands like Trek, Whyte seem to hold their value, Orange seem to lose a lot very quickly. For example mint condition Orange 4 with high spec sold for £1300 a could of weeks ago.
Are there any particular reasons?

Sounds like a cracking deal.
Orange Four is 27.5" - no-one wants an XC/downcountry bike without 29" wheels.
Plenty of Oranges selling fine with full Brexit/Covid tax on as well, so it may be selective bias (I always see cheap bikes when I'm not looking for one too...).
Not Orange but a few bikes I have been watching recently have gone for less than I was expecting, could be the end of summer and prices starting to calm down a bit?
Orange hold their value as well as most with plenty of P7 and Crush going for big numbers. It is model specific though, the shorter travel FS always seem to be harder to shift.
Might have a look out for a 4......
Orange hold there value, but as mentioned it can be model specific.
The Four never really sold that many from what I can tell, never really took off. I have a Four and think they are underrated for a uk trail bike, but on paper it just isn't a Five (obviously I suppose!), they do still hold there money.
I had been after a 27.5 Four frame for a while (built a small one up for my daughter), couldn't find one so just bought a 2020 Five frame, as I have been Orange curious for a while. Thought it was a bargain as it came with an X2 shock.
Time will tell 😁
tomhoward 👏👏👏👏👏
I had a segment as an ex demo from orange.
It was great but I could never get the shock how quite right. Either it was bottoming out repeatedly every ride or it bottomed out once a ride and was too hard everywhere else. So I bought a geometron.
I stripped it down to sell and found the rear end had cracked. It was sorted by orange very quickly. I noticed quite a few segment frames for sale with new rear ends.
I love an orange with the same geometry as my geometron.
I wouldn't have one without a warranty.

This is a very good point. If you're happy to ignore current trends then there are some bargains to be had.
Short travel oranges don't sell well.
I got a factory segment for nearly half prices and it wasn't a one off.
It's a bloody amazing bike, I was worried about the shock too but no bother so far.
I demo'd a Four and took it up/down Snowdon and around Cannock and it was a brilliant bike. I'm sure the low sales are because people knew in their heart of hearts it was the right bike but as you say "it isn't a five". Looks like they've got around that by calling the Four a Five Evo now! 😀
Lack of bottle cage was always an issue. I will see if it is a deal breaker.
The lack of battle cage has never bothered me TBH, as said certain models hold value I've been watching Stage 5 prices for a while and they never seem to drop much. Bought a Crush29 last year they seem to hold value well too.
It was a bargain binman you bought it off me 🙂 you can put a bottle underneath
@sprocker really enjoying it so far, trying to avoid crashing it for a couple of weeks 😁, thanks !
Glad you like it 👍
I stuck a bag in the frame of my segment. It took two liters of water. It was the xl, but I'm sure you could get a normal bottle sized bladder/ bag combo on most of the frame sizes.
