Ok so I went to Asda the other week had eyes tested then ordered 2 pair of glass from them.

I've just seen a pair of sports glasses but to order them I need my PD gone back to Asda to ask for it as it was not on my prescription paper work and was told it was not included in the test and it was illegal for them to give it me WTF.

Is this correct? Surely they need this to make the bloody glasses I order from them anyway?

It's not illegal for them to give it to you but they don't generally give you the PD measurement as it means you can buy glasses or lenses from elsewhere. The PD doesn't have to be included on the prescription either.

You can usually send a current set of glasses to the company who are supplying the new ones and they can measure your PD from the lenses.

You can measure it for yourself, there's lots of online guides to doing it, many optical labs don't seem to worry too much about it and will accept your own measurement, others either assume you fit in an "average" ballpark of about 63-65mm or ask for an old pair of glasses to measure it from...

My last prescription didn't include a PD measurement, I still managed to order lenses with it....

Dunno about illegal but one of the answer on this NHS page, say they are not required by law to give you the information

So hows about measuring your own

It's the one way they have left of frightening people off ordering online.

As above, no legal requirement to give it to you and it's not part of an eye test, it's part of a glasses fitting.

Get a loved one to measure it for you.

I've bought glasses from the internet a few times and measured my PD myself it pretty easy, never had a problem with the glasses i got.

Will be doing it again in a week or so.

Some places will send you a guide but you just put a ruler across your eyes and measure the distance between the outside edge of one pupil to the inside edge of the other, this will give the same measurement as centre to centre but is easier to see.

If ASDA have supplied glasses though they will presumably have a record of it on file. In that case he can make a Subject Access request (and pay the ?£10) to get it.
