You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So in exactly 6 months I'll be sitting in front of the pyramids ready to start the small journey to Cape Town.
I'm doing it to raise money for a charity called build africa, the hope is to raise enough to build an entire school, somewhere in Kenya.
I've created a website for people to keep up to date with my progress, both before the race, with training equipment and fundraisers etc, and then regular updates during the race whenever possible.
The total amount will be declared once we know which school I shall be helping and the work that is required at that school.
Hopefully the company I work for will be matching the funding, and despite some nay-sayers I'm adament that with hard work the amount we need to raise can be raised. So if your going to say it's impossible don't even both posting.
The website is www.tda2012.com feedback about it is welcome, any way which I can improve it and any content which can be added. I plan to add a section on equipment, and a section on training.
Any support is greatly appreciated.
Good luck fella! That's a looong way to go.
Good luck Ian
good luck Ian mate.
braver man than me, i hope it goes wll.
good luck!
I was looking at that event a few years ago and thought it would be an amazing thing to do. Needless to say that i never got anywahere near entering it!
I would love to do that or something like it. Respect
Excellent...Good luck! Something I'd loved to do. Look forward to seeing progress on this one.
Just looking at the Tour D'Afrique website...almost 12,000 km (7,500 mi) in four months 😯
Say hello to Midhat in Sudan - I imagine he'll be guiding you through. We toured a chunk of the route a few years ago at a more sedate pace. I'm rather envious.
just had a quick look at your website: if you're still looking for a suitable bike, I always thought that a Rohloff hub was ideally suited to this much sand and dust.
BTW, have you considered starting a "What tyres for Tour D'Afrique?" thread yet?
Well rightly or wrongly I've decided against the roholf, yes, it's less likely to go wrong, however if it does your screwed.
The frame is on it's way should be here within a month. I'm not sure I've made the right decision, however I love the frame and it fits me perfectly. If it turns out to be too stiff or too uncomfortable over serious distances then I'll just get another.
good on ya Ian!!
But who will make me coffees on a sunday when you are not here?
And what spec have u decided on in the end??
Wow, serious kudos to you, that's one hell of a commitment to make! Looking at your picture and reading your intro you're not the typical scrawny 'racing snake' you'd expect to be doing this kind of thing ( no offence intended) so even more respect is due. Keep us updated on your build-up.
