Anyone tempted for old time sake, Ben Deakin seemed to rate them highly on his YouTube channel.
Could we see a resurgence in old skool tyres making comebacks, Tioga factory dh for example, what ever happened to tioga and that edge tyre that was supposed to revolutionise cornering grip.

Totally different tyre but really good by all accounts. There's so many bikes they'd look great on.

I'm holding out for the Octopus myself.

Forgot about the Hutchinson octopus, that was an awesome tyre.

The original octopus was perfect for those days you found yourself riding on a thin layer of enamel over a cast iron substrate. I can almost hear the tyre releasing. Superb in damp to wet conditions.

Tioga DH. Great for smashing up and down sets of steps in Edinbrugh. Horrible to pedal up any kind of off road gradient.

I remember putting some back on a bike and pending to the top of the red run at glentress. Then just lying there totaly knackered for about 30 min.

The Tioga tyres also saw me land upside down in a tree. They slipped about 2min after the black comes off the red at GT.

I'll not be buying them again. Possibly the only tyre I've binned while it still looked new!

I’m still using Tioga DHs, my favourite tyre ever 🙂

Tragically I asked my LBS when they were expecting the Octopus. Even more tragically they said they’d enquire 🙂

Tioga DH. Great for smashing up and down sets of steps in Edinbrugh.

No they weren't, the sidewalls were paper thin and had all the grip of a wet shite in anything but dry hard conditions. Unless you mean White Tigers which had better grip but equally woeful sidewalls. I presume in your case as in mine they were supplemented by 10mm thick DH tubes.

In 1995 I bought the last batch of white porcs in the UK from a wooden floored GT85 smelling Paul's Cycles in Norfolk before they became an internet mega seller.

Put them in the boot of my Mum's beige Rover 416 the night before starting university in Liverpool.

It being 90's Liverpool the car was of course stolen and with it my heart.

A quick browse of the website & it seems you cant get the soft compound tyres in anything other than RC loam/dust tyre

they dont offer a kevlar bead version of their soft compound tyres, I had a similar problem, had grippy version of their Ibex tyre on 650b and it was amazing, but the 29 version only available in harder versions
Aquilla is a great tyre too, but also only available with DH casing in decent compound

It being 90’s Liverpool the car was of course stolen

This could be accused of lazy stereotyping but tbh it's probably true - as a student there then, I witnessed an amazing sounding rally car being thrashed down Smithdown Road, closely pursued by several cop cars and a helicopter. Some likely lads had decided they fancied bringing one back from the RAC rally stop over in north Wales for a raz around toxteth and sefton park :->

it’s probably true

I’m not sure I believe a story that involves someone wanting to steal a Rover 416 😉

The green wildgripper front was an excellent I thought.

I never had the original white porcs but I actually really liked running green tyres. I was racing junior cross country around this time and always felt being able to see the tyre in your peripheral vision was useful when racing. the white even more so.

Probably not much of a concern these days but id be curious to see how they look on my current bike...

If we are after dodgy retro tyre then bring back Panaracer Speedblasters

I think the 1.8" weighed less than 500grams. They were labelled on the packaging "WARNING Dry Use Only" which obviously made them perfect for Scotland. They were terrifying in the wet, but actually fast and grippy in the one week a year its dry up here. Tread lasted about six rides though.
