I can happily enough read OS maps and get a feel for the contours of an area but I've always thought that it would be really intuitive to have an overlay which shows elevation in heatmap style - high points in red and low in blue. Something like this:
Is there anything like this available online like google maps?
TIA
Nothing, really?
just pick the terrain option. colours arent quite so vivid but otherwise does what you want.
On the 4th of August I start at the OS in their App development team, and part of the challenge we are going to be addressing is different ways to transmit data to end users.
I actually mentioned heatmaps as a possible route in my interview and they seemed to like the idea.
When I start, i'll bring this in to swing some good favor - cheers 😉
yeah, I realise that terrain 'kind of' does what I want but it doesn't really do it all that well.
plyphon, be interested if something comes of it.
Does this mean you can get us a cheap OS map plyphon. Have I said how nice your hair looks today?

The road map is 18 months long... so eventually something will! Tho I'd like to add consumer maps is a small, tiny percentage of what the OS does. Our work will be aimed towards enterprise, government, infrastructure etc. Although I do assume a "consumer" app will been developed also. When it's ready for testing I'll see if I can get some beta testing codes for STW!
