I'm currently running a Reverb AXS in my XL Hightower with 170mm drop, however I've recently been getting "extension" envy as a few of the lads have OneUps and seem to have their posts slammed!
Anyone with a Hightower using the 210mm OneUp, i think i saw it mentioned somewhere that the internal routing on the Hightower is a bit tight and that OneUp redesigned the actuator to solve this.
I've currently got about 80mm of post out of the frame (not including post seal head)
Will i really notice a difference with the bigger drop? I can't say I've ever struggled with the seat getting in the way, but maybe I'm missing a trick?
I had a hightower v1 in L with 210 drop. I shimmed it to 190 when i put on another bike and it felt exactly the same. It think once its out of the way on steep stuff its job done. Anything more is a bit pointless.

I don't really agree with that. The first 50-100mm or so definitely makes the biggest difference, but more is better for me. My current post is 175mm and I'm envious of the 210 droppers that some people have. On smaller, longer-travel 29er bikes you can probably get the seat so low that the bum-vs-tyre is the limiting factor but on an XL I don't think that would be the issue.
If the cable routing is anything like my 5010, it's a real PITA. I don't quite know why because you obviously can't see what's going on, but it takes more finagling than anything else I've done. I can always get a gear cable straight through but the outer never seems to want to go over it in either direction. It's a very tight >90° bend into the thin 'hemi-seattube' (to the drive side of the shock). A shame because the rest of the frame's cable routing is really easy. If you've currently got AXS it might seem like a downgrade when you're trying to install a cable.
170 to 210 will be noticeable, for sure.
Not sure I'd want to go back to cable after using the AXS reverb though!
How far down can you slam your current post? If it's all the way, get a QR seatpost collar and lower it for proper descents, should give an idea how the extra drop will feel, and you don't have to bugger about with feeding cables through the frames.
I was under the impression that the internal routing went down the toptube? There doesn't seem to be any room for it to go either side of the shock tunnel?
This is on the carbon version by the way.
Yeah, AXS does make life a lot easier, hoping that a 200mm might be released at some point...
I'd be wary of the clearance having got rid of a Hightower because of my frustration with the oneup dropper! The routing channel means you are very much restricted once you want to get the dropper in as much as possible. I ended up having to take the cartridge/moving portion out and turning the outer so that it was happy and then putting the cartridge back in if that makes sense. So the writing on the post wasn't at the back and I dreaded having to service it and having the same issue again. I'd be sticking with the AXS if it were me but the XL may be different to my medium.
Thanks guys, i think I'll stick with the AXS - its 300euro to change to the OneUp and although it would be cost neutral with the sale of the reverb, it sounds like it could be a bit of a faff!

Er, @beer247 you might want to think about how a cable would get from the top tube past the seat post itself 😉
On my 5010 it's all internal - cable goes down the downtube, around a corner before the BB, up the right hand side half-seat tube thing. I assume the carbon Hightower is the same (though the alu ones are different with an external cable run around the shock).
i ran a 210mm in large hightower - i have a pedal height of 29.5" from centre of axle hole to top of rails
so i did have a bit showing of the lower seat part but it worked fine (as well as a crap one up post does)
its kinda put me off any future SC's though - i cant get a really long dropper for my pedal height sadly - on my current transition in large i can slam a 240mm one up in and it still works perfectly (although again the post is shit lol)
I now have a 200mm dropper on my bike (admittedly a hardtail) and won’t be going back to less drop again.

I just replaced the OneUp remote on mine with a BikwYoke one, and it has massively improved it, the plastic OneUp lever always needed too much effort to overcome flex and play, it's now instant. And the BikeYoke remote is cheaper too.
I have seen a few customers damage droppers/cables/hoses by fully inserting long droppers into Santa Cruz frames that have a split seat tube.
So be measure carefully and feel what is happening when inserting.
Annoying as SC are generally so well thought out to work on.

yep bikeyoke and fox are a million times better than the one up - the one up lever was awful, so hard to press and not remotely (lol) smooth at all!
put a bikeyoke remote on my fox transfer and its like butter - ive had the revives too and they are not matched by anything smoothness wise, you can literally work the lever with your little finger nail its that easy!

yep i can see how thats happened tbh - its a great shame as its a deciding factor in a frame now for me if i cant have a long dropper - so rules SC out for me these days, other than that they are exceptionally well made, probably the best out there
So, thought i'd give some feedback on this;
My AXS Reverb developed a bit more play than usual and also started to squish a few mm (vent valve had no effect) So its gone off for warranty/service!
Decided to bite the bullet and order the 210mm OneUp.
What
A
Difference
I really was skeptical that 40mm more drop would make a difference, but it really does.
*incoming cliche warning* the bike seemed to disappear underneath me, especially when riding aggressively on tight trails!
I was careful with the installation as mentioned above to avoid kinking the cable or outer.
I've got about 30mm of post showing to get the saddle at the right height (6ft 2 on an XL)
Maybe i could have gone for the 240mm and shimmed it down, but not sure i would have been able to insert the post enough into the frame.
If you're on the fence about more drop, my advice is just to do it!
