One Up dropper issue

So ive got a One up dropper that has come on a brand new bike

Right out the box i noticed the saddle had quite a bit of side to side wobble, which is normal for a dropper but i wouldnt expect to be as bad as it is when brand new

Also has some back and forth movement and a clunking noise

Its going to be swapped out by the place i bought the bike from so easily fixed but is this a known issue with One up droppers? from what ive heard they are meant to be one of the better dropper posts out there

Wondering if i should sell on the replacement and get another FOX Transfer (other bike's one is 4 years old, never been serviced and still works lovely)

They aren’t normally like that new. Several years old I have rotational play on both - similar to a brand x would have. No forward and back etc. You can rebuild them with new bushes and new brass keys with a kit that’s about £20.

Hopefully you should get a decent new one under warranty. I personally would swerve the Fox option as it’s not home serviceable and very expensive to get serviced.

The only dropper I think I’d buy that’s more expensive than the Oneup is a Bikeyoke.

Both my One Ups had more side to side wiggle when new that any other post I’ve had. However, they’ve never got any worse and certainly no back and forth movement.

Not great, hope you get it sorted.

One of our three has a bit of wiggle. I got some oversized pins and fitted the biggest ones. A year / 1000 miles later it's still great.

Pretty much everyone I ride with has gone OneUp from Reverb. Far more reliable and far easier to service and cheaper than either Reverb or Transfer.

Cheers for the replies

Its being replaced first thing Tues

Ive got two FOX Transfers and both have been faultless (£150 each in a sale) also have a old Brand X on another bike, again that's been pretty much faultless, even the Specialized ones ive had have been pretty good, only dodgy droppers ive ever had were a Reverb and KS Lev

Will give the One up a go and if it has anymore issues ill replace it with one of the above

This ^^. When you're riding, it's not noticeable. I think you can get some slighter fatter brass keys to take out more slop but I never bother as it's a non-issue.

There is a threaded thingy that screws in to the top of the lower part. If this is not done up tight it will wobble.

For some bizarre reason mine has come loose twice in 12 months. Each time it has taken me an hour of riding swearing at droppers saying they ate shite before working out the issue.

Have you emailed them? They are really helpful.

Front to back play - daft, but...have you checked both saddle clamp bolts are done up tight?

Little bit of side to side wobble in mine but no back and forth.

On a separate note, I'm not hugely impressed with it. When it's slammed, if you do the seat post clamp up to 3 nm, then the post doesn't extend. Having to put travel spacers in to reduce it from 180 to 160 in order to have some post showing. It's also incredibly sticky and no where near as smooth as my old Brand-X

As above Mine has some rotational play from new and a creak on pedalling. When I serviced it after about 6 months the green end cap was loose and after I’d tightened that up on rebuilding the play reduced almost fully and the creak stopped

Thanks for the insight above. I just noticed the creak on pedalling with my 240mm post. There is a bit of side wobble as is the case with these. Time to pull the post anyway. A winter left in a steel frame. I pray.

So tightened the endcap up snug and then some. No more creaks and barely any side to movement in the saddle now.
