I recently did OPA black and missed the new Michelin section completely.
The trail map on-site doesn't look like it has been updated since 2016, but I'm guessing it's somewhere between marker 72 & 79?
Is there a way of doing the new section and the black, or do you have to do a full red?
You have to miss a couple of the first black sections, although I’m guessing if you knew the exact route to take you could double back? We don’t!
You access it from the blue, down the first fast descent, through the woods and it's on the other side apparently. We did the black/red at weekend and didn't do it as we were short on time
I was speaking to a guy at the start of the Blue on Monday and he was saying you can double back up the fire roads once you've done it, but we were just out for a normal loop 🙂
Could anyone confirm where this section actually is on the map?
Was told it's off the red, but the above two posts are saying blue
cheers
I think it starts at W72 and parallels the red on the map, Not sure how you link it into the black though so we didnt do it
The map is very out of date.
It starts by Shotton view on the map, and ends at sign 79.
Following the blue will be the easiest way to get to it. If you really want to do the black sections first then keep your eyes peeled where the trails join and Offas Dyke Path crosses, there’s a longer fireroad climb back up to the Michelin or a steeper/muddy push/ride up.
It’s nowhere near W72.
