On a road trip with my wife from Austria to France. Arrived in Pietra Ligure today for 3 nights / 2 days (hotel is at the Finale end of Pietra).

I can have a day riding but I’ve never ridden here before. Am I best to try to book a day’s guiding / uplift as looking on Trailforks it looks pretty tricky to self navigate?

I prefer fast/flowy/jumpy but will ride anything, would NATO base give me the best taste of the trails here?

I’m on the ebike not my DH bike so can pedal a bit.

Pietra Ligure is a bit grotty, is Finale nicer for eating out / bars?

If it was me and one day. I would book a guide. We have used Mario at Trails Adventure for our last couple of visits and will be using him again in a couple of weeks time.

He's a local based in Pietra but will go where ever and base it around what you want

Private guides aren't cheap but well worth it and far better than tagging along on one of the guided tours

Try Finalborgo (just up the road) for nice food and fun bars.  It's also a very pretty place.

If you have trail forks, and an eeb, I’d get a single up to NATO base, do a few laps there, pop back down to town via a long run, charge it & then get another single up to Din, ride those trails above Rollercoaster, then do Fast & Furious / Xstacy & make my way back down to Pietra. That would be a good day out as a taster & in reality is more varied than a one day guided experience is going to be there.

What HobNob said really. Easy enough to get a feel for the place from the NATO base with Trailforks.  We lucked out on a full day as we had a group on the Van that new where to get picked up after a run and where to go next. Without that bit of luck we would have lost the Van (probably) and ended up back at the bottom. So just get a single and see if you like it.

Cheers guys. Can you just roll up and pay for a single or do you need to book on?

If you've Trailforks then get a single uplift to Din and work your way down from there back to Pietra.

Melogno> Alta Via > Fast n Furious > climb to Mt Carmo.... From there down to Pietra. Oltre Finale > Dog Eat Dog >  climb > Sentiero del Fieno

Makes for ~40-50km of riding with over 2000m of descending and ~600m of climbing.

Plenty of nice trails (that are not as heavily ridden as those around Finale) from Mt Carmo.... Can be ridden up from Pietra, too.

Cheers guys. We rode into Finale today, spent a couple of hours on the dog beach then up to Finalborgo for lunch - great tip.

It’s only 15 minutes ride from our hotel to the uplift place so I’ll do a morning uplift to NATO, then an afternoon one to DIN.

Maybe see if my wife wants to meet in Borgo for lunch.
